Here is a link to the tournament website for this year’s North vs. South Challenge. Sacred Heart intends to live stream every game, including the four “showcase” games scheduled for Thursday, October 16.
This will surely be another great tournament.
It is fantastic that schools like Sacred Heart and Harvard Westlake make live streams available. Most colleges could learn from them.
The staff and parents do a first class job all around on this event including the BBQ
The BBQ and the parents that do it are great!
Are tickets available online?
There is no charge for admission at the North vs. South Challenge.
I’ve heard that Newport’s Sean Anderson and Connor Clougherty are both out this weekend.
Will be fun to see yet another battle between Newport and CC.
Easy, Let’s not count out the semi match-ups quite yet and put Newport and CC on a High Horse already. This tournament is like March Madness and everyone is gunning for them!
Very true, and that would be even better. Always a good tournament and could deliver end of season upsets. Hopefully I spoke too soon
Here are my predictions, often wrong, for this year’s North vs. South Challenge. For the first time I can remember, four Northern California schools might make the quarterfinals.
- Newport Harbor. Newport will have to play better than it did against Cathedral Catholic last week and De La Salle tonight to win the tournament.
- Cathedral Catholic. If Newport and Cathedral play in the championship game, it will be their 5th meeting of the year. Newport leads the series 3 games to 1.
- Sacred Heart Prep. SHP’s senior goalie, Murdoch Baker-Matsuoka (a high-level D1 prospect), missed a significant portion of the Elite 8 Tournament with an injury. I believe he’s close to 100 percent now. If so, I give SHP a slight edge over Oaks Christian, Miramonte, JSerra, and De La Salle.
- Oaks Christian. The likely quarterfinal game between Oaks Christian and Miramonte could go either way. The team that receives better goaltending will win the game.
- Miramonte
- JSerra.
- De La Salle
- Santa Margarita. The first-round game between Santa Margarita and Campolindo could go either way. Campolindo beat Santa Margarita by one goal in the South Coast Tournament. Santa Margarita has played very well since then. I give them a slight edge in the rematch.
- Campolindo
- Loyola
- Harvard-Westlake
- Mater Dei
Most intriguing first-round game: Santa Margarita vs. Campolindo. Most intriguing likely quarterfinal game: Miramonte vs. Oaks Christian.

Newport will miss their Goalie Connor in North-South!
I just heard that too
Wanted to say that @JFranPolo is killing it doing commentary on the GOLS feed at North vs South.
100% second that. Thank you JFran!
For sure. You can hear the disbelief in his voice with some of the calls. I’m right there with you!
Heard that as well and they are spot on ![]()

Sloan Brown just scored the game winner for DLS on a 6x5 in sudden death overtime to beat Loyola 20-19. Sloan had a good first half, but was quieter in the second. Hayden Tully was also solid for DLS - drew a bunch of exclusions. Great game and battle by both teams.
Interesting this tournament pulls higher rated officials but with that comes bigger official ego.
Campo game earlier today (I’m watching for fun, no dog in this fight), but the official gives an exclusion with minor act to a kid for fist pumping and nodding his head. No warning, no finger wag, no yellow card.
This is one of the biggest tournaments of the year and we can’t allow celebrating goals? Totally unacceptable on this official.
