2025 South Coast Tournament

Anyone have next weekend’s South Coast tournament schedule or any idea on when they’re planning to release it?

Here is a link to the Google document for next weekend’s South Coast Tournament. This is the strongest high school tournament field I’ve seen in many years.

A few recent game rematches on the schedule. Rough for the 3/6 seeds with only 1 hour break between games. #1 seeds with much easier games and the ability to rest players in game 1 and also get 3 hours between games?

What an incredible field. It should make for an exciting weekend ending at Newport’s brand new facility.

South Coast - Initial bracket projections. Anticipating some 3rd seed rumblings.

A Bracket: 1. Newport vs. 3. Mira Costa → Newport

B Bracket: 1. Cathedral Catholic vs. 2. CDM → CC

C Bracket: 1. JSerra vs 3. Santa Margarita → JS

D 1. Miramonte vs. 2. SHP → Miramonte

Should be a good tournament. Good luck to all!

Wow that is a great field, and should be a fun tournament to watch! Good luck to all teams , it is still Newport’s to loose but hope there will be some great challengers!

Here are my predictions, often wrong, for this year’s South Coast Tournament:

  1. Newport
  2. Cathedral Catholic
  3. SHP
  4. JSerra
  5. Miramonte
  6. CdM
  7. Oaks Christian
  8. Mira Costa
  9. HW
  10. Santa Margarita
  11. De La Salle
  12. Bishop’s
  13. Loyola
  14. Campolindo
  15. Buena
  16. Long Beach Wilson

  18. MD
  19. Dos Pueblos

Most intriguing 1st round game: Long Beach Wilson vs. Westlake. Most intriguing 2nd round game: Oaks Christian vs. Santa Margarita. Most intriguing quarterfinal game: Miramonte vs. Sacred Heart (a possible preview of the CIF Northern California Reginal Tournament D1 championship game).

Definitely some bangers and potential upsets. Any chance these games are streamed?

In typical South Coast Tourney fashion the possible 2/3 matchups are absolute bangers. Some very good 8pm games tonight.

Sacred Heart, under-seeded at 5th, will prove to be a very tough out and I predict an “upset” in quarterfinals against Miramonte and then the toughest game of the tourney for Newport in the Semis.

Team with a chance to answer a lot of questions about them— Santa Margarita. Very light schedule thus far but I predict a good showing this weekend.

Top 8:

  1. Newport
  2. CCHS
  3. Sacred Heart Prep
  4. Santa Margarita
  5. Miramonte
  6. De La Salle
  7. Mira Costa
  8. JSerra

I just note on the Barcelona thread that Overnght is broadcasting Next Generation. I hope South Coast tournament is also streamed. If an international tournament is streamed at high resolution and the major American tournament is not, that is not a great thing.

De La Salle over CDM 13-11 at CDM

As a result of today’s play, here are the quarter-finals matches for tomorrow (all games 6 p.m.):

  • Newport Harbor vs. Bishop’s (at Newport Harbor)
  • Cathedral Catholic vs. De La Salle (at Corona del Mar)
  • JSerra vs. Oaks Christian (at Foothill)
  • Miramonte vs. Sacred Heart Prep (at Edison)
Newport Harbor has previously defeated Bishop’s, 15-7, on Sat., Aug. 23, at Corona del Mar; also, JSerra has previously defeated Oaks Christian, 11-10, on Wed., Sept. 10, at JSerra. (Cathedral Catholic has not played De La Salle yet, nor has Sacred Heart Prep played Miramonte.)
Three CIF-SS teams are in the quarter-finals (Newport Harbor, JSerra, Oaks Christian); two are from CIF-SDS (Cathedral Catholic, Bishop’s); two from CIF-NCS (Miramonte, De La Salle); and one from CIF-CCS (Sacred Heart Prep).

Really tight and exciting game between Miramonte and Harvard-Westlake. HW was leading at the half 6:5, and the game was decided in the last 1:30 min of the game. Congrats to Miramonte!

First day roundup: Mostly went as seeded. Mostly.

OCL was right in predicting that the 2/3 games were bangers. (The two non-2/3 games that were close were JSerra’s one-point squeaker over Campo and Miramonte’s 3-goal win over HW, both 1/4 matchups – the latter of which was much closer than the final score might otherwise suggest.) Jeff was right (and Kickout and OCL were wrong) in the Oaks/Santa Margarita game, but the latter can hardly be faulted for an erroneous pick in a game that went to OT. (Whereas Jeff gets kudos for correctly predicting it as the most intriguing second round game.)

OCL was also right in predicting De La Salle’s victory over CDM; Kickout and Jeff missed that one. And everyone who (courageously) put their picks out there failed to predict Bishop’s somewhat breezy 15-11 win over Mira Costa. That pick goes to the seeders alone, who had Bishop’s 8th and Mira Costa 9th.

My predictions for today’s quarterfinal games.

Newport over Bishop’s by 9

SHP over Miramonte by 3 in the NorCal showdown.

CC over De La Salle by 4

JSerra vs Oaks is the really tough one. Heading into the weekend, I was sure that JSerra would at least make the semifinal, but they are very young and inexperienced. I wouldn’t be surprised if Oaks pull this one out. I’ll take Oaks 13-12 in overtime.

Some good games tonight. I wish the tournament reshuffled the locations and put all the quarterfinals games at one pool so you could watch all of them.

It would have been fun to watch all the quarters in one pool!

Not too shabby for predictions here. Got to catch the second half of the SHP game. I love how they look and it’s good to see them back as one of the top teams.

Unfortunately, I don’t they will beat Newport. I predict Newport by 4, who will likely play Cathedral Catholic in the final, who play Oaks who beat JSerra by 1.
