Super Finals 18U Boys

D2 finals seem set and it will be Olympus vs Vanguard. Looking at the scores they seem to have had strong weekends. D1 CCU has made the semis tomorrow.

edit: Sorry, NoCal vs Vanguard in the D2 final tomorrow.

I think you had it right the first time with Olympus vs Vanguard

Shaq’s coach wrote that intentionally.

They apparently go by NoCal

Not soSoCal? Or LowCal?

Is Newport really playing the U18 Super Finals with one sub?

I heard they had to use their backup goalie as a field player at times. If that’s true, taking both Atherton and CCU (favorites) to one-goal games is beyond impressive.

I was not there, but I spoke to someone who was and they did only have one sub in the CCU game and in the majority of Atherton game. They finally got some help towards the end of the 3rd quarter of the Atherton game. Missing 5 of the senior players to Navy, 18U Worlds and Senior team and playing against full roster teams is really impressive.

I believe the Dons are in a similar situation. Missing 3 to Navy and 3 more to the National team. Very impressive by both of those teams.

Yes. Lots of teams are missing guys. Some more than others but those teams typically have deeper rosters anyway. Next man up.

I was there, and it was beyond impressive. Whether you like Newport or not, playing basically four games with one sub at this level is almost unheard of. They did get some 16U help in the 4th quarter last night, but up to that point they were running on fumes.

The way they managed substitutions, rotated in the zone, and kept competing was outstanding. They even had to use their backup goalie as a field player at times. I’m sure a lot of teams are missing players this weekend, but I didn’t see another team playing with only one sub against that level of competition. That group showed a tremendous amount of character and resilience.

Yes, I notified GOLS through Instagram. They said they were expecting better internet from the school internet, since they are wired into it, not using wifi. I advised they bring a Starlink like Overnight does, especially if they are going to charge for the service.

The broadcast with school internet for the top 12 pool at Newport is blurry 480p with spotty sound.

We paid the $30 for the live stream, but instead, I brought my own Starlink and am broadcasting in perfect 4K for our team. It costs $5 per game for the 5 GB of data uploaded, no reason to skimp on data quality at that price. I think these events should use whatever service brings their own internet solution.

I like most of the announcers’ work at GOLS, it’s just a shame their feed is unwatchable.

Stanford vs Dons

Rematch of day one where Stanford narrowly edged out dons in a shootout.

Can’t wait to see the result.

It will be a great JO’s when everyone is back.

Newport’s starting goalie was in the field. Back up goalie was in their cage

You add Connor O. , Kai K. and Tyler A. to these group of 7 players, I am not sure who will be able to stop them during the JOs, despite the 2 players who are gone to Navy!

Fun weekend of water polo with so many nail biter games. Hats off to Stanford for playing incredible water polo all weekend. Hats off to the Dons for coming so close playing with mostly 16s.

It’s going to be fun watching the JOs this year.

I actually got to see games from all 3 divisions. In D1 the Bay Area really showed up. I expected CCU to win but Stanford played incredibly well. as most have said JO will be fun to watch.

D2 Olympus (NoCal) really had some surprising scores leading up to a competitive final. I know they upset Aetos in week 2 or 3 so them winning shouldn’t be a surprise. Both them and Vanguard are very good teams by looking at their rosters.

D3 Rancho Tsunami never seemed to get tested. I got to see their final and they were clearly the best team.

That is a formidable group. Didn’t realize Conor was age eligible for JOs.
