I would politely say this - they had a kid (cap 10) who was 8/14 shooting in the Vanguard game . Take him off that team, they would have lost by a bunch. He was great, to include drawing a foul and making the shot from 6 meters with 10 secs left in the 4th of a tied game when everyone knew that’s what would happen.
Week 1 of Futures CIU had like 20 16u’s at WPE Cup (according to the rosters)…their Futures team was B/C and 14u kids. One game weekend 1 a few starters showed up with a gap in the WPE schedule.
Looks like CIU 16s took 2nd at Kap 7 and they were missing a couple starters.
This weekend was their first weekend with a full “A” team according to one of the dads i overheard.
Lots of good players on that team…Channing Ren, and several other ODP, All CIF, all League, and international players…key would seem to be putting it all together. 
That makes a lot of sense just from looking at the scores week to week.

Is it me, or does it seem like San Diego water polo is at new level? The 3 big clubs, La Jolla, Shores and Dons are top teams: D1 Futures, 16u and 18u and La Jolla and Dons are 2 top teams in 18u National League.

San Diego water polo is the best I’ve seen in a while. Last fall, La Jolla High School upset Cathedral Catholic for the Open Division Final. Also, The Bishops had a very young squad–mostly sophomores. Santana and Helix are on the way up as well. San Diego could have 3 of the Top 5 teams in the nation next fall in CC, La Jolla, and Bishops. Also, Santana (two talented rising sophomores and a good goalie) and Helix (very solid group of rising juniors coming up that play for La Jolla United) will be candidates for our Top 25 in the nation.

It’s always interesting to put predictions out there, so glad you did it. I am aligned with a couple tweaks. I expect La Jolla to jump up, but who would drop I struggle with. I will say CIU drops. D1 - B agreed. D2-C I think CDM has not proven anything this year and Vanguard or Rose Bowl gets in over them. CDM will be 4th or 5th. D2-D Olympus is the wild card. I see them or Foothill.

I thought the top 3 teams go to d1/d2 crossover from d2. Is it only the top 2 from each bracket?
The bottom 2 teams from D1 play with the top 6 teams of D2 in the crossover, with the top 2 teams moving into D1 and the remaining 6 into D2.
Bottom 4 from D1 play top 4 from d2.

North Irvine intrigues me about what they can do this season. Coach Carrera said that he’s been missing players due to illness or injury. I know they have a new team with kids that did not play together before.

Thanks for clarifying. I had read this on the futures site for this upcoming weekend. “The bottom 2 teams from D1 will play in a tournament with the top 6 teams from D2 with the top 2 finishers moving/staying in D1 and the bottom 6 in D2”
On the schedule it is a bit wonky because of the special accommodation given to Greenwich since they could not attend week 1. What it says is the bottom 2 from each D1 bracket, there are 2 D1 brackets. Week 4 will be an 8 team bracket, unlike the 9 team bracket in week 2 unless something is modified.

And week 2 didn’t end up having 9 teams as CdM didn’t participate, so they also received a special accommodation. For week 3 they received the top seed in one of the two D2 groups despite going 0-4 in week 1.

I don’t think it really matters for CDM when the third week is a round-robin within two groups. They started in D1; even if they had played the second weekend, their worst-case scenario would have been ending up in D2 this weekend, which is where they are now anyway.
Hopefully, they didn’t actually hire that lawyer. I heard the firm is running billboard ads on the I-405: ‘If Your Future Depends on It… 1-800-StayD1.’

Futures has been an interesting watch, especially the weekends it goes head-to-head with National League. Mission and CIU appear to be primarily focusing on 18u National League with their best and most experienced line-ups. For example, CIU in Futures 18u has played all their 1st year 18’s, and that is the apparent plan going forward. In the 16u Division this weekend, some teams are playing a few of their better 14u’s.

Looks like nothing is competing with 18u futures this weekend so hoping to see every club’s best rosters. Has anyone explained why mission’s 18u is in D4?

I think it’s essentially their B / JV team. Unlike other teams discussed here, their A team is doing NL and their B team is doing Futures. They aren’t really having kids do both.
