There have not been conflicts each week for 18U that impacted scheduling thus far that I can recall.
@WPpops yes youâre right - i think my comment was more pointed to joelâs comment that some clubs seem to be primarily focusing on 18u National League. with national league off til March 20, i hoping we will have more top players on 18u rosters this weekend.
Makes sense. There have been multiple consecutive weeks in a row with no break for some kids being spread very thin so it may have the effect of a rest period, which is well deserved if so. Many of the top 18U boys have had events the last 6 consecutive weekends and this would make 7.
No break, next week is the boysâ ODP National Championship.
Good point. I think it is realistic to expect players to select what week to take off. ODP will not be an optional weekend so you could see this being a good week to rest and recover a bit and take care of their bodies to be ready for ODP.
Saturday:
D1A â CU at risk after losing badly to SoCal
D1B â SD Shores upset Newport, who brought all the big guns in the last quarter and still lost. LA Premier upset Trojan, which is surprising and I thin Trojan had all their key players.
D2C â CDM delivering with wins against AETOS and a convincing win over Carlsbad
D2D â Foothill beat Olympus (aka NoCal) and Greenwich winning against Foothill in a close game.
Tomorrow will be interesting. I think CIU was missing a few key players, I assume they will get a call tonight.
Dons appear to be clear front runner in D1A, and Socal and LaJolla should easily secure staying at the top. CIU and N Irvine destined for the crossover. D1B way more balanced and tomorrow should be fun. D2C seems clear that CDM and Aetos will be in the 1/2 crossover barring any surprises tomorrow. D2D the had Greenwich, Foothills, and Olympus all in 1 goal games so still TBD tomorrow but Greenwich sitting in best spot after today. South Coast still in it and Supreme is out.
For Futures 18u, CIU is only playing their first year 18uâs. Their seniors are not playing 18s Futures.
Trojan was without Grant He and Lucas Pearce. SD Shores came out strong vs Newportâwent up 5-0 after 1. Newport settled in and came back, but SD Shores was clutch down the stretch. Imperial lost two tough matches. LA Premier played very well vs Trojan. Newport came out strong vs LA Premier and was good throughout that game.
Anyone have a summary of NorCal 18U?
NorCal is going as expected Lamo is good as usual with a strong goalie(Jack Elder) as well as UCLA commit Tristan. The second place team in their bracket was CCU however I believe they were missing many key players during the Lamo game. On the other side you have Stanford who rebounded from a poor National League performance with a convincing win over atherton. Atherton similar to ccu was missing key players in their game vs Stanford. Will be interesting to see.
Foothill tanked their last game vs South Coast to avoid D1 Super Finals. Pulled their starting goalie after the first quarter. It was tied at that point and final was South Coast 13-8. Lame.
Did they? They are tied with Olympus at 10 points and beat them yesterday; therefore , I think theyâll advance to D1/D2 with Greenwich.
3-way tie between Foothill, Olympus and South Coast at 2-2, 10 points each. South Coast top on goal difference.
Final result from NorCal top4 is CCU, Lamo, Stanford, Athrton.
from what I saw CCU is the team to beat although Lamo is very close by. Atherton came out strong vs Lamo however they were unable to hold on as Lamos depth is showing to be a great strength. Stanford had a rough game against CCU however they rebounded with a very impressive 20-7 win vs Atherton. CCU narrowly edged out Lamo 14-13 for the win. CCU is the team to beat up north.
The top teams in SoCal 18s seem to be separating themselves. Dons, La Jolla United, Shores, Newport. Mission isnât playing Futures but would round out my top 5. San Diego water polo is crazy good.
South Coast played a strong game today. Foothill did not tank⌠their starting goalie left due to an injury. Both teams have had some great matchups this year, and it will be fun to watch how things play out down the stretch!
Foothill definitely lost interest quickly early on in that gameâŚwhether it was a tank or not they seemed to stop caring.
South Coast having a college freshman on their roster this weekend definitely helped.
Agree with you that they were not the same team as the week before or earlier in the weekend, from an interest point of view I could not tell if it was about getting guys playing time that had sat most of the weekend or something else.
Who was the college player for South Coast? They still went 2-2 losing to GW and Olympus.
Maybe the college player was N/A or N/A with a space
good job 6-8.
None of the D2 games in Fullerton had stat coverage or they look like this screenshot.
GOLS coverage was mostly good.
That looks like South Coastâs opponent was keeping stats. There arenât published rosters for Futures so no way to know the names of the opposing teamâs players.
I see that South Coast has a freshman at UCLA and one at UC Merced. Maybe one of those boys?
