Looking at the 18U girls, since SET won and Regency made it to the final, you expect their players, rightfully so to fill in lots of spaces on that First and Second team.

This is where it becomes a head-scratcher. SOCAL finished in third place. They were the only team that was able to beat SET during the tournament (second day). They ended up loosing to SET, by one goal, in the semi finals, in the last minute of the game. As a matter of fact, I believe they were the only team that was able to play SET, within closer than 3 goals the whole tournament, and not one SOCAL girl ends up at the very least on the Honorable mention ???

Maybe I’m just not aware of how these lists get put together

3rd place team gets two 1st team selections and one 2nd team selection. If they aren’t listed that means the coach or club chose to not award those slots for whatever reason.

It looks like SoCal didn’t submit or missed the deadline. Because there is zero voting involved the club gets x number of spots and we then fill out a google form.

surely 10/7 is more than enough time.

I saw the cases where the club submitted the list to USAWP after the announcement, and USAWP got the form updated. It is not too late even now…..

I would say that it is too late now. You can’t go back and remove somebody else’s name, that is already on there. Not fair to that player being removed, after you already recognized them

My understanding is that no one will be removed so long as the club is qualified, but forgot to submit their names. New names will be added, and the existing list will simply get larger.

The allocated spots are spelled out in the Conduct of Championships. As has been stated, if a club who was entitled to a spot/spots has no athletes listed, then the club either chose not to or neglected to submit their selections.

Chrissy Flynn, Leland High School and SET Water Polo Club, was the MVP of the 2025 Junior Olympics women’s 18u age group. One point to anyone who can name another individual, female or male, who won the MVP of the 18u age group before his/her junior year in high school.

Sami Hill - Santa Barbara 2007

One point to Marco for correctly telling us that goalie Sami Hill was the co-MVP of the women’s 18u age group in 2007 before her junior year in high school.

Sami was a phenomenal goalie.

What grade was Madeline Trabuco in when she won her first MVP? I think that it was 2011 or 2012.

Madeline was the MVP of the women’s 18u age group in the 2012 and 2013 Junior Olympics, before her senior year of high school and first year at Cal.

It’s unfortunate that JO All-Americans is conducted this way. If a coach/team has the option to not participate (like SOCAL clearly has done the last two years), it diminishes the prestige of this list. If I was a coach, I would probably elect to not participate as well and avoid the backlash from parents who’s kid didn’t get picked.

Why not make it a true coach’s poll? Does anyone know how the All-CIF lists are decided?

From the list of allocations that was posted, it looks like the MVP automatically goes to somebody on winning team? A team wins 7-6 with 7 different players scoring on winning team, and somebody on loosing team scores all 6 of their goals and draws 8 exclusions, and even stops a 5 meter because her goalie was injured, and she still would not get MVP? (Most Valuable player).

Nope. This confusion happens every year. JOs is a severely flawed tournament and this list is poorly named. There is no prestige.

Thanks for explanations. I actually thought that there was some type of voting happening during the semis, third place game, and final, for example, to come up with 1st and 2nd teams and that the honorable mentions were handed out by coaches whose teams did not make it to the semi finals, or something along those lines
