Compare to earlier penalty against US that I thought was marginal because Weinberg came out and stole the ball just as the penalty was called. 50-50 call, no complaint from me, but got to call it the same each way.
Defense doing well–with a LOT of help from Weinberg and the goal frame. ![]()
This entire game feels off, as in both teams can and should be playing far better
but someone gotta win and I hope its the US!!!
This is a janky game. Brutality, lots of exclusions, low scoring and now a double exclusion. It’s just disjointed and physical. Neither team playing well.
Bowen with a huge goal. One defensive stop to take us to penalties.
U.S should be slightly favored in a shootout, Weinberg also playing out of his mind…
I frigging hate penalty shootouts. With a medal on the line, we should play a full OT, or at least one golden goal period.
OTOH. WEINBERG for the win.
Wow wow wow!!! Weinberg!!!
Weinberg is the player of the game without question. 3 penalty saves including 2 in the shootout. Several other huge saves. Steal at the end to send it to penalties. Really proud of the effort and players on the team for the win.
Australia was laughing a little too hard on the bench when hooper got rolled… karma!!
It’s a shame World Aquatics won’t adopt similar rules as NCAA and HS with OT.
They should do this at least in the knock out rounds like they do in FIFA & UAFE soccer.
Penalty shootouts are so unsatisfying.
Julie Swail has always done the women’s games and she does a good job.
Limey, I totally agree. What is the reasoning for not going into OT and then Sudden Death? It is not like soccer where the teams go scoreless for long periods of time.
Serbia is starting to hit its stride. Mandic is deadly and the rest of the squad is stepping up.
Great win for the US, but Australia really let this one get away. Besides Pavillard, their offense was horrible. Overall, Australia looked very undisciplined on both ends of the pool.
Porter had a good game, but glad that the US wiped that smirk off of his face at the end. Also, Poot laughing on the bench after the Hooper incident was not a good look for Australia. Karma.
I agree she does a great job.
In the early games streaming on Peacock, they only had an Australian guy doing play-by-play, but no-one doing color. She has been calling the recent Peacock games though.
Penalty shoot outs are the fairest way to decide a game where the ref can’t make a bad call favoring another team and influencing the result. Don’t like them either but that’s probably why
You say that as if the rest of the game isn’t subject to referee interference
It is but that’s why if the game is tied at the end you let the players decide it in the shoot out
