USA Men’s Senior National Team 2025

Was looking at the USA men’s senior national team schedule on USAWP, looks like USA is playing Japan at the World Cup qualifiers in Romania on January 6. Any roster release for this tournament? USA’s bracket is weak, they are playing Japan and Romania in the group stage.

World Cup Qualifier Roster:
Adrian Weinberg
Bernardo Herzer
Chase Dodd
Ben Liechty
Alex Oprea
Tyler Abramson
Ryan Ohl
Dominic Brown
Corbin Stanley
Marko Vavic
Nicolas Saveljic
Jake Erhardt
Max Irving
Dylan Woodhead

Should be great experience for the newer guys but it’s hard to imagine a USA team competing against the best without Cupido/Hallock and Daube

Agreed it’s gonna be tough without Hallock in the middle. Curious to see how Brown and Stanley do at center… also curious how Saveljic and Erhardt will be having not played a real game in a while.

Also let’s see how big a difference 3 lefties makes for our 6 v 5.

This is one wild group — I guess it will be fun to see what the coaches saw at the 50+ person tryout to pick this team out of it.

Anybody having the live stream work? Live score updates have the US up 3-0. All I can get on the supposed live stream link is an ad.

You have to pay to access the live stream. It was about $20 for a 28 day pass.

So far, we look much much better than Japan.

You gotta pay for the livestream…

Through half the first quarter it looks like the new rules have hosed Japan. Way less movement and counterattacks

Also the reset to 15 sec is boring off a rebound. Everyone just thinks defense and waits till it gets lower then shoots a contested shot

Agree on both points. Japan doesn’t look like the Japan we have been seeing the way they are playing right now.

(Edit: well, Japan did Japan things in the second and made it a game like they always do. If not for Adrian making some big stops we’d likely be down. Japan getting it off of steals and counters)

The quick resets look like they are going to take time for teams to adjust to. We got a possession with several rebounds and rushed to shoot again every time. Just looked out of sorts.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Japan has definitely picked up their press and counter game. US up 1 now

I always thought Japans style kept them close in games but also hurt them in close games cause they’d tire out by the 4th. Maybe the shorter course will help them in this

The Japan lefty has a real nice catch shoot

Well, I’ve paid World Aquatics now, so perhaps I can watch the second half.

Who’s playing center for USA?

Center by committee including Vavic and Woodhead so far.

9-7 USA at the half.

First quarter was a lot of working through Abramson and Irving (he’s shooting very well).

Second quarter Japan found their defense and counter and are keeping it close.

The US is subbing pretty freely.

The 25 second shot clock seems to have almost eliminated driving in the sport if this game is any indication. Neither the US or Japan seem willing to move after the counter attack transition.

Rule of thumb growing up is don’t drive under 10 sec… so after you counter and there’s only 15 sec left it leaves barely any time to drive

Change the shot clock back to 30 sec and keep same course length. Bet you get more drives

Has the US been getting killed on the counter like this all game?

Yes. Very much so. It’s how Japan has stayed in the game.

The new US players have really struggled against Japans press and counter (makes sense since nobody in college does that)

Our defense has been pretty poor in all areas of the game (FC, CA, 5 v 6) but that’s to be expected with how new this group is together

Tied going into 4th

OTOH, a lot of offense from those lefties is nice to see.

19-17 USA final.

That game was about exactly what you’d expect from the first game of a new quadrennial and with new rules as well.

The veteran presence for the US righted the ship any time it was needed (Irving’s shooting and leadership here), Weinberg covered for the defensive mistakes, and the young guys got lots of experience.

It was great to see production from the young guys like Liechty, Ohl and Stanley.
