Bernie to Stanford since Temkin is graduating?

Isn’t Martin a senior?

I think that Martin is a redshirt senior. I would be really surprised if he had any eligibility left. He redshirted in 2021 with Stanford, so that would give him the four years of 2022 - 25 to max out his eligibility.

Correct. He’s not in the portal, he’s graduating! My post was about potential roster construction dictating what teams would be looking for in the portal - not who was going in the portal.

Jack Martin redshirted during his first year at Stanford in 2021. He played for Stanford as a redshirt freshman in 2022. He transferred to USC in 2023. I remember hearing at the time that Martin transferred too late in the cycle to be eligible to play in 2023. He played for USC in 2024 and 2025. The NCAA generally requires an athlete to complete his/her four years of eligibility in five years. However, an athlete can seek an additional year by requesting a waiver for medical and other reasons. If Martin didn’t play for USC in 2023 because Stanford didn’t release him in time to do so, my guess is that the NCAA would grant him another year to complete his four years of eligibility if he requests a waiver. I don’t know whether Martin wishes to play another year. In the meantime, USC’s incoming class reportedly includes two of the top 3 Class-of-2026 centers (Tyler Anderson and Nathan Simoncelli).

Does anyone know the backstory on this? Last year, Bernardo Herzer was arguably the top goalie in the US, was a hero at SC and absolutely crushing it. I heard he got injured so Pinta played Mills, but I really don’t know what the story is. The fact that he’s in the transfer portal seems like big news - but maybe not?

From what I have heard Charlie mills started playing more confidently during practice and games and he got the starting spot just because of that. Its true since the lbsu game early in the season he really hasn’t played bad, but to bench the best gk in college and 2nd choice for senior team doesn’t make sense to me.

this just shows that no matter how good you are if you’re not the best you are still replaceable. I dont ever see this happening to someone like Adrian Weinberg.

Mills beat him out plain and simple. Pinta said on that pre season water polo Wednesday interview they were close.

Hearing from close sources Jack Merill will be transferring to UCLA. Former U20 World Bronze Medalist heads to the bruins from Stanford with 2 years left of eligibility.

Was he out injured this year? I do not see him on the 2025 team.

He didn’t get much playing time at Stanford

Bruins need a 2MD with Gray Carson’s eligibility expired

Stanford needed help at 2MD this year. I would have thought that Merrill could have really helped them there.

I assume, maybe incorrectly, that most of the portal activity has taken place and now the players are determining landing spots. It will be interesting to see how the landscape changes and I hope the players find a place that works for them.

Do players need to sign with a new team by a certain date? I am not sure how the mechanics of this work.

Should be interesting to see who is on what roster also heading into national league.

Is the transfer portal only accessible to NCAA coaches? Could any one see who’s in it?

Hearing from a good source, Bernardo Herzer to Stanford! What an insane class for the Cardinal’s so far this year!!

Any word if this officially happened with Herzer? Any update on any other portal guys changing schools, or staying put after trying the portal?

Bernardo got accepted to Stanford so I think it’s a done deal.
