With the Women’s Transfer Portal opening today, I figured we should start a thread for when we start hearing about who is in the portal.
Nioka Thomas, Center, Senior UCI
Madison Walker, GK, Junior UCSB
Bella Mady, UT, Freshmen UCSB
from waterpolorecuitnews instagram.
I think it is such a shame to see so many players transferring out of USCB (Men and Women). UCSB has an incredible aquatic history and the school itself is fantastic.
No pool and coaching issues have contributed. I’d love to see a big donor and some positive momentum for the program.

Baseball received a large one earlier this year. Maybe they can share🤗
What is wrong with ucsb’s pool?
Apart from being what looks like at least 50 + years old ![]()
Campus pool is condemned for further use is my understanding. Basically $10-15 million for a new pool that would be acceptable for use for their aquatics programs. Currently they have access to the Rec Center pool for minimal hours and they play games at local SB high schools.
Yes, the pool is literally condemned. It’s fenced off - and there is still water in it. I have heard that nobody is really putting in much effort to raise the money either. SLO parents raised something like $30m in a matter of weeks to save their swim program and the fact that UCSB appears to be so apathetic is disheartening. The “Michael Douglas Aquatic Center” (he’s a proud alum) seems like it could be an achievable goal if the right people were in charge.
Long ways to go for Cal Poly Swim — they have raised $7.5 million with the goal set at $20 million by the end of May.
Sorry for the off-topic — lots of high level players left off of NcAA rosters this weekend, will any of them enter the transfer portal?
Paola Dominguez Castro - LIU - SR Attacker
Damaris Kientz - BIOLA - SR Goalie
Daniela Herrero Miralles - APU - JR Goalie
Evelyn Prado - APU - SO ATT
Emily Engle - APU - FR ATT
Kohia Rego - APU - SO Center
Zoe Frangieh - ASU - JR Defender
Karly Frangieh - ASU - FR ATT
Alison Kokorowski - ASU - SO ATT
All of this was on the @waterpolorecruitnews instagram. I wonder how many more APU and St. Francis transfers we will see with both teams dropping to DIII.
I believe there is a group working on fund raising, the school has given them site options for the new pool, just need the funds.
Jovana Sekulic has entered the portal
Rumor is that she has already committed to Harvard. Not sure if that is true though…
Doubt it. Pretty sure all Harvard applicants, including athletes, have to go through the regular admissions process, which means she would have had to apply back in January. But time will tell.
athletes do not go through the same admissions process- even at Harvard.
That may be true but not sure the Ivys take transfers at all. Grad transfers would have a difficult time getting admitted. It is the same at Stanford.
Stanford has received at least 2 transfers: the men’s goalie is a transfer from Princeton and the women’s team took a transfer from Arizona State who was on France’s Olympic team. With the new liberal transfer rules, we will see many more players in the portal and I suspect a few more transfers to the Ivys and Stanford. It won’t be a flood of players with those schools, but probably a slight increase over the course of the next several years. We’ll see though…
Just saw two new UCLA players in the portal…one made the Australian Olympic team.
So it would seem highly likely than Sekulic follows West Temkin in the path to Stanford eh?
