There should be some rules if they are giving out prize money. Rosters should be locked before the season starts to avoid European ringers coming in just for the final weekend.
Agreed, no roster changes after week 2.
No less important, a big thank you to Jon Wieman of Holos Law Group, and a fellow water polo dad, for stepping up and donating the prize! The future of this sport relies on all of us in this community.
For the first time-ever there is a prize pool for the USA Water Polo National League. Big thanks to Jon Wieman and the Holos Law Group for making this happen. Check out all the details - USA Water Polo National League Announces $25,000 Cash Prize - USA Water Polo
Time to tighten up the rules on rosters now that money is involved. There should be no ringers from Europe or players from other teams moving to other teams for the finals. What happened last year will not be acceptable with money on the line.
How about something like a rule where you have to play in at least one weekend prior to the final tournament and players cannot move rosters? It was great seeing some big names come play.
I feel like some sort of roster lock should be in place and you have to play at least one weekend in order to play in the final weekend now that prize money is going to be involved. Also how will it be split amongst the top three teams? Assuming close to 40% goes to winning team and then the next 60 split amongst the next two?
Anybody know if the same Mikasa balls will be used this year for NL?
They should be as Mikasa is still the sponsored ball for USA Water Polo
Do rosters get posted for National League? i seem to recall someone posed a link to rosters last year…
Last year after some heated controversies USA water polo pulled most rosters down. They should be on 6-8 scores once the games start, however those are not always accurate….
What was the issue with it last year? Was it due to players changing teams?
It was never stated, however it felt like it was due to the OC register story that we cant discuss here. You can still see them on 6-8 scores. They did post and you can still view the rosters from the championship tournament. Hoping to see the rosters soon. According to LAAC’s and Ducko Instagram they had quite a few Fordham players, some young youth players, a few euros and the Dodd Brothers. Wondering who Ryder will play for as he is sponsored by LAAC so maybe he worked something out with UCLA.
Got it. Since we can all see it in the stat sheet it seems like you might as well publish it.
Anyone have the USA Youth and USA B rosters? I assume that’s Youth Academy kids competing on those teams again this year?
The press release for the $25K says: “For a complete National League schedule, click here. All games will stream LIVE on Overnght.com and the Overnght app with LIVE stats at 6-8Sports.com. Team rosters will be announced closer to the start of competition.” note that the “click here” isn’t a link
So, they may still be coming.
Rosters are out HERE
Got to say, I do not like the fact that guys can be on two teams! Many guys are double rostered with LAAC who are on the youth and many from UOP and San Jose State will be competing in the North conference that is not competing this weekend. How can you rank teams that play LAAC this week vs the teams that play them in weekend 2? The roster will be completely different. I don’t feel you should be able to play on two teams in a season unless you transfer entirely due to playtime or chemistry issues.
Does that include Clay who is double rostered on LAAC and in the broadcast booth
. Look fwd to seeing him in the pool !!
Newport with 27 guys! That quite a testament to the depth of that club. Amazing. Obviously, many may be playing with either USA or college teams.
