Wanted to create a new topic to discuss. Several players in Malta’s team are reportedly under investigation as of this morning for betting on goal differential in their game against Montenegro. No news yet, investigation could spread to the other games they’ve played if something turns up. NBA, NCAAB yesterday, now this. Make you think if there’s anything going on at the NCAA level or and some of the higher level pro leagues in Europe.

Anyone who thinks the proliferation of sports betting in the US (and beyond) is a good idea, I encourage you to listen to all parts of Michael Lewis’s Against the Rules podcast. It goes deep.
If loneliness and isolation is the #1 threat to young men, a close 2nd is easy (and targeted) phone access to sports betting and gambling. It is going to get much worse in the next decade.

I agree with you! Really sad times when there is a market to bet on a Maltese waterpolo game. And the proliferation of stats is only going to make things worse.

As a sign of how bad the problem is, a Google search for “Malta water polo match fixing” got me two purported news stories that sent me instead to betting sites where I could place a bet or get a prediction. There are also a few legit stories, but be careful what you click on.
