The SOPAC came very close to splitting in two about 10-12 years ago. The IE part of SoPac plus the eastern end of CCA wanted to form their own zone. Allocations as we know it would be significantly reduced. One of the compromises was providing more event bidding opportunities to different clubs.
Driving to the IE every now and then is not as painful people make it out to be.
For Cal Cup sure, teams can always opt out (and most have, voila). But for Quals? Cmon now. For 95% of SPA families itās the farthest location within SPA.
This is ridiculous. Get Over it. Families outside of CA have to fly or drive 2-5 hours to quals. Then have JO in your backyard while everyone else travels.
Looking at pool sites too, CHAWP and SOCAL have always had a close relationship with each other so itās not surprising that SOCAL pools are in the mix for some of these divisions. 14U Boys, 12U Girls, 12U Coed is probably the only one that is all CHAWP pools.
Iām curious why Riverside wasnāt an option for these pools since CHAWP also has a lot of players there and those pools are also used for Club Champs
What about the pain of Coastal parents who have to drive to Ventura/Oxnard from the Whittier and Claremont areas AND are still waiting on the Youthāsā schedule?
Iāve seen a lot of IE athletes and their families driving to practices in OC 4 days a week. Obviously thatās a choice they choose, but they seem to think itās not that bad of a drive, itās like a 1 hour drive from Newport to most of the Norco area pools.
Essentially correct. When the split occurred, it appears that most of the girls followed their respective coaches. 14u girls stayed with Jacob Pril, who became a part of Dons as heās the Cathedral Catholic head coach. 12u girls stuck with Sarah Lizotte, who remained with Del Mar. And 10u girls stayed with Thalia Ormsby at Del Mar.
Your depiction of 10U results is misleading. Most teams (5) competed in 10U Coed which you donāt list at all. 10U boys and 10U girls only had three teams trying to qualify.
10U Coed results: Chula Vista Premier, Shores, East County Aquatics
