You caught me red handed:) The 10u Coed Division had 5 teams competing while the 10u Girls and 10u Boys had 3 teams in each category. The Coed Division is less competitive. There was no malicious intent here.
Yes, every year, but it is only done in the first round. The zone is dominated by three monster clubs and it makes no sense to waste swimming pool time, referee time, and families time playing one clubās C team versus their own A team. That courtesy is opened up to the entire field so that any team can decline to play any first round game.
I donāt know if it was planned, but I do think ECAās forfeit versus LJU A in 14u was what got them into the game where they had a shot at the fourth PSW slot. With all things being equal, I think La Jolla B would win more times than not versus ECA, but on Saturday La Jolla B played their starters heavy minutes trying to knock off Dons B in their second game of the day. The ECA versus LJU B game was La Jollaās third game of the day while it was only ECAās second game of the tournament, and ECA came out with a one-point win.
ECA could have taken a shot at the number one team in the country but instead chose to save their energy for the effort to get their team into JO Championship division.
A possible solution is a mercy rule: if a team leads by 10 goals at halftime, the game ends. This reduces blowouts, limits wear and tear, saves pool/officiating time and still gives teams valuable experience.
Just a thought to help balance competition while keeping everyone involved. Sport has to keep growing!
Iāve grown to really like the PSW system of offering first round opt-outs. Mercy rules donāt help on the financial side because the pool needs to stay rented even if only half the game is being played. I suppose you could pay referees for only half a game, but it is already hard enough getting referees without potentially cutting their pay in half.
The PSW system where the schedule is out in advance so that coaches and athletes know when to be at pools, blow outs are minimized, and teams have choice over the experience for their kids seems to work well.
10u coed is way more competitive and slightly higher level than the girls division this year.
Is this universally true that coed is less competitive? Seems to me that I have seen some 10U teams with a couple very good/dominant girls and some decent boys that played at a high level (for 10U).
Correct. Boys Division is the highest level, followed by Coed. Apologies for leaving off Coed.
10U Dons boys has some significant future talent. Would not bet against them taking gold again this summer.
If you call a game at halftime you are still paying for the refs and for the pool space. Youāre also taking away playing time from kids who need more playing time.
The answer is for the team/coach that is winning to stop countering, set up your offense and require everyone to touch it, and depending on level. complete a certain number of dry passes, into and out of set etc., before dumping the ball. Use the full clock.
Nailed it, we SPA parents are entitled jerks for wanting things run efficiently.
Btw this incremental driving generates an additional 10 tons of CO2. Not that we SPA parents care about the environment (again, entitled jerks).
Wait, youāre driving? I was planning to fire up the PJ.
Does anyone know if PAC olders is released yet?
I agreeā¦I thought it worked really well this weekend. In fact, a few more forfeits would have been beneficial for all involved. The Dons B vs LJU B and LJU A vs CBAD B were tough watches at 15-0 and 23-2, respectively. And both winning sides didnāt look like they were giving it their all so the scores didnāt accurately reflect the difference in level.
Does anyone have access to CST JOQs?
This is great. Thank you!
PAC olders seeding meeting is tonight. Schedule should be out by Wednesday. Thatās how it was for youngers
A lot of 10U Coed teams in CCA playing this year, what would be the chance for more team to go JO this year?
99% chance that all 10u coed, boys, and girls will have a spot at JOs.
