2025 Futures Super Finals - Women

Schedule: Link

The seedings seem off. What are they based on?

I’m less familiar with the women’s side, but here’s the explanation I gave regarding the men’s format:

“This year, Futures is adopting a structure similar to World Aquatics. On the first day, the top 8 seeded teams will compete against each other, rather than playing lower-seeded teams as is typical in Junior Olympics. On the second day, a crossover mechanism will allow top-performing teams outside the top 8 to challenge the lower half of the top 8 seeds for a spot in the quarterfinals or semifinals. This format is designed to reduce early mismatches between high and low seeds and promote more competitive play throughout the tournament.”

Futures also staggers SoCal and NorCal teams based on how they finished in their respective leagues. The seeding order alternates: 1 SoCal, 1 NorCal, 2 SoCal, 2 NorCal, and so on.

They remain agnostic as to whether, for example, the 7th-ranked SoCal team is stronger than the top-ranked NorCal team—the former would still be seeded 13th, and the latter 2nd.

East bay was warm, dry and windy. Lots of good games on days 2 and 3. Refs were good at the games I was at (many were from so Cal). My one complaint, don’t make the girls fill out recruiting information at the 16 and 18 D2 level if not one coach is going to show up the entire weekend. 45 min drive from Soda to Liberty probably did not look fun to any coaches recruiting at the 16U level. One would think you could put the D1, 1st and 3rd place games in the same pool as the D2, 1st and 3rd. They did not even get the D1, 1st and 3rd in the same pool!

Yes Futures does do a very good job of making sure all the highest rated officials are on site for the weekend. One thing you notice though is that they still can definitely make huge errors that change games. 18U Regency was gifted a shootout win in the final after missing their last shot, goalie collects the rebound and then just gets swam over with no call to then get another shot to tie and make it. I was only watching the stream though so maybe it looked different in person but in my mind Legacy won that game.

One other note, with there being 4 major clubs in the East Bay Area, isn’t it time we had full course set ups with goals that don’t have holes in the nets? Side lines allow for live subbing which if you watch international play is becoming integral to the game.

But if we put out side-lines, that’s just more stuff to set up beforehand and then also clean up at the end of the tournament.

Can’t believe De La Salle had no end lines with floating goals attached to the wall. Very strange for a private school hosting a high level tournament.

The holes in the net and the bad ref calls on them are unacceptable. This changed the outcome and paths of some teams!!

At de la salle the ref would not let the teams warm up during play. there was one lane but he did not want them passing under him so he made them get out. the next team was allowed to warm up as the new ref did not care.

We had a good experience in 12U. Refs were good, pools were good. First time at Futures and it went smooth.
