Occidental 15-14 over CMS.
, D3 1 ranked vs 7 ranked.
Does anyone have the Gary Troyer schedule?
UCI 20, Pepperdine 10, according to The FOSH. Did anyone watch the game?
Not unexpected, Pepperdine defense and GKeeping is bottom top 10 at best. Just look at UCI .600 and Pepperdine .286.
If this is real then my whole diatribe about goal play is clearly playing out before your very eyes.
On the other side UCSB looks to have made NO changes with their GK. Another dismal .301 performance. From the look of the stats the refs kept them in the game. I guess not having a pool or coaching will take it’s toll. 1-11 on powerplays. Coaching staff time to resign.
Stanford beats UCLA 9-7. UCLA had a disastrous 1st quarter, trailing 5-1. Defense came out flat and Stanford put on a masterclass on the defensive end today. UCLA defense pulled it together after the 1st, allowing only 4 goals after that, but the UCLA offense was so bad, they couldn’t overcome the deficit. 1 goal combined between Painter and Pittman and they still won. Temkin is easily the best goalie in the Big 4, and he had some big saves from in close. UCLA couldn’t get their centers going, often forcing in balls for turnovers. 8 shots from Sherlock tells the story. None from Ben Leichety and 1 from Kenney and Kenney’s shot was in the last possession for UCLA. Neither of those two acted as a shooting threat. Ryder was the only Bruin who looked good, but I don’t even recall him getting any looks in the 2nd half. Stanford centers played really well and that was the difference outside of the stellar defensive effort and goaltending.
Appreciate the nice writeup Rb.
Watched the first 3 quarters, no 4th quarter on overnght. No stats on 6-8 or Fosh. My thoughts…
Adam got schooled in good coaching. This is 2 games in a row that Flack’s teams came out and overwhelmed a good team that was not ready to play. After that Stanford executed on both sides. Their goalie stole the show defensively and then created opportunities offensively. Flacks has put together a “team”. UCLA has more raw fire power but getting past the GK may just trip them up.
The UCLA gk is good but not a game changer. They also do not have the cohesion that Stanford exhibits.
I am looking forward to see what shakes out tomorrow.
On another note i owe the UCSB backup goalie 1B an apology. Fosh had it wrong and you were not in the goal, thank you to SJSU scorekeeper for setting me straight. I saw you finish the game against UCLA with a nice block off your forehead and thought you moved well. Unfortunately wigo is sticking with his losing ways and kept the forgettable 1 gk in both games today. I was going to not mention this ream anymore, but had to make this correction.
Also thank you to whoever sent me a message about backing off the goalkeepers. I will not be listening to you and will continue to call it as I see it.
The 6-8 box score for SC - Cal show that Ponferrada and Valera had no stats. Can anyone confirm that neither played? Seems odd they wouldn’t have any stats. And anyone who watches them play UCLA today, can you confirm whether they play please?
I watched the first 2 quarters of the USC/Cal stream. No sign of Ponferrada or Valera playing. Cal had the other lefty starting.
Pretty wild weekend so far with more to come:
UCLA getting pounced on by a very on-theme Stanford early attack. Temkin is a beast. And it wasn’t a complete Pitman/Jensen show but very team oriented.
Pep gets smoked by UCI and then getting taken to the wire by Concordia!!? Nice to see a little any given Saturday vibes in water polo.
Pep going down a few rungs for sure in the ratings. Who would you guess moves into #4? UCI or Pacific?
Davis in typical Leyson mid-season form comes up with two nice wins to teams that had beat them prior.
UCSB is struggling to finish games strong - I’m not as convinced it’s all goalkeeping as H20god does but looks like a lack of fitness and defensive cohesion, certainly a talented set of individual players.
SJSU falters just a bit, largely their own doing with rough euro style play not being aligned with American reffing standards. Great coaching/recruiting has SJ way above where they’ve been in past years
Santa Clara recruiting/style/results are better than I’ve seen in recent years - wonder if they’ll opt in for the new rules and have the cash to dish out more scholarships? Tough conference in the WCC but directionally moving in a good direction. Better academics than Pacific and SJ so wins and tight games may give them a bit more of a recruiting edge in the future.
UCSD and LB keeping their schedule light for the weekend sailing through matchups (UCSD v AF pending)
and…Princeton edged by Harvard this morning. Will have to sit and watch this one.
In D3 PP looking solid with a tougher schedule, Redlands looking alright as well. Will be fun to see how they all matchup in conference play coming up.
Oxy taking down CMS last week is a cool shake up. But CMS taking down 2 D1 and a D2 team this weekend. Good stuff all around.
I would definitely carve out 60-90 minutes for the ESPN plus replay of Harvard-Princeton. Outstanding game. Harvard did a fantastic job on the 7 on 6.
The East is definitely strong at the top end this year as Fordham, Harvard and Princeton are all fielding incredible teams.
Ryder will be the best American player since Azevedo. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quicker release on the shot
possible top 10 ordering post weekend games
Stanford University
University of California-Los Angeles
University of Southern California
University of the Pacific
University of California-Irvine
Fordham University
Pepperdine University
University of California
Princeton University
Long Beach State University
I would only swap UCI and Pacific due to pacific crushing UCI
agree and swapped them above
11-15 would likely be (in loose and arguable order):
UCD, SJSU, UCSD, UCSB, Harvard
Would have liked to see Fordham schedule some better games on their west coast trip in a couple weeks. UCSB, SJ and UOP should help determine the 4-6 placing but would love to seem them play USC and CAL. We will have to wait for the NCAA tourney.
