2024 NCAA Season

I think Cal may have the most room to improve during the course of the season and wouldn’t want to play them in the MPSF tourney.

But, no surprise, their early season struggles are illustrating how difficult it is to replace TWO generational talents in Papa and Weinberg

Fordham 12 Princeton 9. Incredibly competitive game. The fourth quarter that Thomas Lercari played will go down as one of the best quarters a goalie played all season. Incredible crowd at Rose Hill. You could feel that the Rams wanted this one badly.

Well they have a lot to improve. UCI were lights out and defense was the foundation to the win and they looked like the team that perhaps they flattered to be last year. One game doesn’t make a season but……

Not this year! Will take a year or 2 to rebuild, too many gaps! They will improve for sure but not enough to make a real run. Top 4 will be a success this year.

Kirk is having nightmares over his offseason follies. UCI didn’t just beat them they humiliated them.
UCI making their goalie change was huge. They went from being the worst of the best to a big west favorite.
Cal on the other hand has a goalie qho may or may not be a desent goalie in a few years. I aee Kirk on the hunt. I heard he was ahopping goalie coaches and insiders…

Checked out UCI page for tonights goalie. What the heck is going on at UCI that this kid wad on the bench? He had to have been doing wrll in practice. Klatt what the heck.

How can i watch Princeton v. Fordham?
These schools look for real.

Ok, Watched UCLA V. UCSB
UCLA got off to a slow start which will get them eaten up by a hungry team. UCSB has some solid shooters so Greggs was pretty solid once he got going. The longer the game went on the better they played. Are the a shoe in? No, they still have not come together as a solid team if they do…

UCSB hung in there for the first five minutes. Looked their best for the last 5 minutes.

They did somewhat negate UCLA on the inside, unfortunately they went 20% on man-up and turned the ball over too much to be competitive. This is just bad coaching. To top it off their goalie is too slow for this level of play. No lateral movement and poor basic skills. He has no idea on how to block a skip shot. Once again Wigo keeps him in for 3.5 quarters of folly. The 4th quarter goalie coming in cold was faster and moves laterally.
Wigo, maybe give Klatt a call and get som advice.

Here is where the replay of Princeton-Fordham is lodged.

Also, Fordham 17-11 over Navy this morning.

Considering that UCLA was playing without Mo Kenney, Jack Larsen, Ben Leichty as well as Grant Loth (anyone know if he will be returning this season? is he currently injured?) it seemed to my eyes that the Bruins played pretty well. Not to get hyperbolic but Ryder Dodd looked almost Tony Azevedo-like with five goals. Meanwhile his brother, Chase, dished out five assists in, what appeared to be somewhat of the Kenney-like facilitator role. Team defense remains impressive.

Given the nature of the sport and the talent levels of the Big Four, the matches with Stanford and USC later in the season will likely be close. But it’s hard not to label the Bruins the title favorites at this point, especially as we have yet to see them truly at full strength.

UCI vs Stanford today should be a good one. Stanford beat them by a decent amount last time but UCI is going to have some serious momentum coming into this

9-4 Stanford at half. Was 6-1 after Q1, then Klatt buttoned up center D to have a respectable Q2

Q3 was 13-7, Final 15-10.

Except for he sounded like a complete Cal homer during the UCLA telecast

After watching multiple games, the Overnight announcer’s knowledge of individual players was incredible. It would be best if all conferences used ESPN+ for a single WP subscription. But the announcer and coverage definitely make Overnight worth it. Both sites leave old games up on their sites for a bit, which is also good for extended families etc watching later.

Thanks, unfortunately that is of volleyball and sound checks at the pool. Tommy screwed the pooch on that video.
I went over to UCSB v. CLU
Blasphemy. I could not even watch. UCSB goalie passed to the CLU goalie…

My understanding is they’re working to fix it and hopefully most of the game will be available for viewing

Thanks,
Couldn’t wait to watch Stanford v. UCI. Flacks’ team came locked and loaded. Game was over in the first Q before UCI woke up. Stanford did everything correct, executed in all positions. Having two solid goalies, centers, 2 meter defenders, attackers…all ready to play.
UCI just didnt show up for the 1st period. I am not sure why the goalies were swapped because the starting goalie still played well.
Stanfords defense back to the goalie created opportunities. Which is 1/3 of the offense.

Stanford pounced on UCI, yep - Pitman and Jensen have been just nuts in recent games.

Watched UCSD v Pacific game. Interested in your thoughts on their prospects this season.

My take: Nice creative euro style of play, solid goal keeping. If they played USC, UCLA or Stanford today, they’d lose due to bench depth and game planning by opposing coach. Fordham, rematch to Princeton and ultimately Pepp will be excellent games and I hope they are televised.

Tony Azevedo played in the 2000 Olympics after graduating from Long Beach Wilson in June 2000. Azevedo redshirted at Stanford in 2000. He played his first year at Stanford in 2001, winning a national championship, winning the Cutino Award, and scoring 68 goals.

I’m probably not the only one who wondered how Ryder Dodd would do in his true freshman year at UCLA after deciding not to take any time off after the 2024 Olympics. The answer after his first 13 college games: 42 goals and excellent all-around play. If Dodd keeps this up, he may be the first player since Azevedo to win the Cutino Award and a national championship in his freshman year.

Fordham won’t have a rematch with Princeton, the NCAA format changed…looks like the replay is up on YouTube. Both will play through California in the coming weeks

Roberto Valera is playing on the same team as Bowen this season for Champions League, is he leaving Cal?
