NCAA Tourney Predictions 2024

Has the Fordham vs. LB game started? Nothing on 6-8 and the livestream says please stay tuned

Trying to watch it also and nothing going online yet.

Glad (sort of) someone else is having the same problem as me.

Hoping this is the best game of the day, ready for an upset!

GO BEACH

There was an issue with the goals and they had to be swapped out so the game is delayed a bit

The stream Just started.

Was hoping we’d get one close game today, but I feel pretty good both games will be good tomorrow. Fordham can definitely score on USC. It will come down to whether they can stop USC or keep up with USC’s offense. I think they have a chance. That UCLA game today was a joke and I almost wonder if it was too easy. They didn’t really work on anything that will help them against Stanford. I’m leaning Stanford with the upset tomorrow

Edit: Lercari will need to play better. 26% save percentage today. A lot of that was on the defense but he looked average

Exciting watching Fordham score and their rowdy fans.

But odd watching these two teams in NCAAs. Not sure who made final rosters but between Long Beach and Fordham that’s 28 international players.

Possibly usa water polo should convince these huge international water polo players to go be offensive lineman in college football.

Have you seen ALL the rosters? They aren’t the only ones. Come on now. This has nothing to do with USA polo, this is collegiate. All about the bejamins.

Boy, did Long Beach lose their composure! They came out super physical and aggressive, and Fordham turned it on them! Some early jitters for the Rams. A lot of missed opportunities that first half. As much as it was a butt whipping, it could have been even worse for Beach.

I don’t think SC will play into the physicality like that, but tomorrow’s semi has a chance to be the game of the season.

Watched the Fordham game in person. This team is so much fun to watch. Beach was overly physical and gave up too many kickouts. The USC game is going to be great. I thought Stanford had a tough draw with Princeton but Princeton did not come to play. The team had no chemistry, no movement on offense, and should have dropped more aggressively on defense. Stanford’s shot blocking is outstanding. CalBap gave SC a good game. Herzer is going to have to up his game to beat Fordham. Tomorrow’s games are going to be excellent.

Haha! No one on Fordham is from the Bronx.

Since when does collegiate water polo make money?

And no one but JLo wants to be from the Bronx or live in the Bronx.

Good luck tomorrow! Fordham fans are creating a great tournament environment and I’m glad they all made the trip.

The Cal Baptist goalie was the best I saw today which was a pleasant surprise. I would be curious to hear what other people thought.

LBSU goalie was pretty hot tonight as well. Made some big saves, but got tough calls for aggressive defense.

Tonight went chalk - look forward to the matchups tomorrow.

Biggest takeaways:

Fordhams set defender was able to have his way today with both of LBSUs centers. I believe they were the unsung hero of Fordhams match. I recall there was chatter on here about how Fordham would match up size-wise, but it should be interesting who they defend Miller and Martin with. Fordhams two freshman were the core of their offense tonight and were clearly the two fastest players in the pool tonight. USC and Fordham both came out very slow in the first quarter, but were able pick it up later. I believe the game tomorrow will come down to how well USC is able to neutralize the counter.

Stanford’s defense looked strong throughout the whole game, their shot blocking is phenomenal. I have no doubt Stanfords 3 headed center attack will demand some sort of a UCLA drop tomorrow. If Stanford wants a chance, their outside shooting must be on par. Much of this will also be dependent on UCLA’s goalie play. If Stanford’s shooting is neutralized in the first half, the game may end lopsided again. If shooters like Jensen, Balogh, Pittman, and Painter can find their rhythm I believe the game will be a dog fight. Hard to have any takeaways from UCLA’s game, but since Adam has had the past 2 weeks to prepare, I expect UCLA to come out with a very solid game plan.

Interesting stat: USC took 17 more shots than CBU. Fordham took 15 more than LBSU. Hard to win games when you have that many less opportunities.

Coaches recruit foreigners to help the team win and thus keep their jobs. These kids have their degrees paid etc … again …money. This has been going on for many years. Coaches make a nice living to do something they love so good for them.

I’m certain some will disagree, but I thought Gavin did an awful job preparing and executing a game plan yesterday. Beach had no composure, and if the plan was simply to be overly physical, did they forget most of the Fordham team is European?

I sort of agree but I don’t think the game plan was overly physical play — Fordham has made it pretty clear they want to play 5 man defense and counter. They take exclusions without hesitation and this causes teams to lose composure quickly.

So I would say Fordham definitely took LB out of any game plan vs they didn’t have one. Just my opinion though, LB also has a heavy foreign roster so sometimes I think game plans don’t work that well.

In NCAA we have yet to see one of these foreign heavy teams win the big game without significant US talent. My guess is it takes a really special mix and we will see if Fordham has the right sauce this year. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if they do, but my guess is UCLA wins it in the end.
