For Fordham, the bright spot is Veklyuk. That kid is the real deal as a freshman and a game changer.
But at the end of the day, despite the win, it goes back to careless immature and undisciplined play. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, they need to radically change their style of play to compete with UCLA, Stanford, etc.
Also, a lot of talent on this Fordham team, but they clearly need time to gel.

Toth with the winner. I thought Fordham didn’t play well and got a little lucky. They will lose to Davis if they play like this tomorrow.

Fordham did not play particularly well and agreed, they’ll be in trouble against Davis tomorrow if the play the same way. They need to gel and work on line-up combinations. I can’t find a boxscore anywhere but I believe 10 of their 15 goals were scored by freshmen (8) and their grad transfer (2). Looks like Veklyuk had 5 goals on 10 shots but I need a boxscore to confirm.

I’ve been saying for years now they need to be more disciplined… nobody has been saying it longer than me 
Tomorrow will definitely be a test for them to see if they can stay disciplined for 4 quarters against Davis

Fordham is going through the same stages as UOP - they found a mix of foreigners and American talent that could compete nicely but ultimately lose to the Big 4. Now they have gone completely foreign with barely any American contributors and you will see this mix will not be as competitive. My opinion is it’s just too many cooks in the kitchen all trying to cook their own food.
No question this is a major jump to conclusion after watching one game, but I don’t see this Fordham team beating a top 4 squad this season. I hope the coaches and players prove me wrong cause I do think it’s highly entertaining to have this program competing the way they have been the last few years.

Fordham, one variable to take into consideration is that many of the players played in 20u and only recently started to practice and play together.
You hit the nail on the head. A lot of these guys just showed up on campus ten or twelve days ago. I thought they looked disjointed as well. The first half was the worst half of water polo I have seen them play in two years. I hated playing Pacific in the opener and Davis will be a loss tomorrow if they play the same they did today.
That being said, not sure I would glean too much from this. I do think the team we see in November has a high ceiling and they just need to figure out a way to beat Davis and then SJSU and Pepperdine in early September.
That’s a good observation. My sense was that Fordham had more talent, but Pacific played better as a team, especially on defense. Both time playing together and having so many new players who have been super stars in the past may be factors.

Exactly. It will be interesting to see how they do as the season continues because their schedule is never as strong as the big 4
