Instead of clogging the active NCAA 2026 thread I am moving this here. Coming out of last weekends eventful SM/SJSU match, we will find out today if any suspensions have been handed down. Both teams play on ESPN. At the college level it should be ok to discuss suspensions here I assume since outlets report of NCAA football and basketball suspensions actively. However, if this is not ok with the moderators please let me know.
My take is there seems to be documented rules around fighting, different than your in game brutality, and leaving the bench. it will be interesting to see if that is enforced here.
I think those rules may vary from league/conference to league/conference. Here is the CWPA version, which references but I think also goes beyond what it required by NCAA rules: Disciplinary Issues - Collegiate Water Polo Association
I find it odd that we have to wait until we see if people are on rosters to infer that they may be suspended. Do the leagues/conferences not post disciplinary action anywhere?
I believe the NCAA suspensions are automatic. Two games for a flagrant misconduct or fighting; one game for a red card. Again, leagues may go beyond this.
Page 63 article 8 has some information on fighting along with other areas. Looks like 3 game suspension for fighting assuming it was marked on the scoresheet and there can be more based on review or base on the conference.
As I read the rule book, anyone who left the bench should have been assessed a flagrant misconduct for fighting, and that should result in an automatic 2 game suspension. From what I saw of that video, SJSU might have difficulty fielding a full roster if that’s the case.
