Kap 7 International

A Sunday only ODP event?

PSW Development ODP Group has training at Southwestern College from 10-1pm on Sunday, Feb 1. I’m not sure about Cadet or Youth nor am I sure if other zones are training at the same time.

Got it. I would not expect any top teams in 18U or 16U to lose guys from Sunday for an ODP practice. Could happen I guess but doubt it.

Does anybody know anything about the SoCal tournament? It is being played the same weekend.

It seems 3 of the top 4 teams in southern California will be there. Have not seen their spreadsheet though to verify or check seeding.

Also seems like the organizers are intentionally placing tournaments over top of the Kap 7 tournaments. (Holiday Cup and International) I have not put on a tournament, but picking a weekend is probably pretty hard given all the different tournaments, so perhaps this is a bad take… but it seems 2 times in a row is a pattern. There was also some discussion around price for the teams being somewhat less than the Kap 7 tournaments.

For the teams that played in Water Polo Experience they may appreciate a deep discount this week.

There is also an OC Invite happening at golden west. More scrimmage style:

They limited capacity which sent some of the B-teams to Kap7.

Sounds like a nice way to get the most out of a travel weekend to double book the team and get scrimmages between games. Potentially playing 10 games in 2 days? If true those norcal kids are gonna SLEEP on the way home!

I believe OC invite is for girls teams only, and looks like mostly A teams.

There may be an interest in a new thread for the OC invite 12U/14U scrimmages. Back to the regularly scheduled Kap 7 discussion.

Pretty sure teams are more split-squad and not double booked. Ex: A @ OC Invite / B @ Kap 7.

It looks like some good matchups today for boys 16 and 19U. 16U only has 1 lower seed in the top division with Imperial making it in so that went fairly straight on Saturday. 19U has Berkeley, Foothill and Riverside being lower seeds that made it into the mix for today. Good luck to everyone there today.

Pacific Zone was a little off this weekend in the 14 Plat. division.

NorCal - 3-1, Stanford - 2-2, 680 1-3 (BEAT CCU), CCU 1-3 (BEAT SHAQ), SHAQ - 1-3 AND LAMO 1-3

Pacific Zone did all right overall, though.

18u: 1st, 2nd, tied for 5th

16u: 1st, 4th, tied for 5th for 16u

12u: 1st, 3rd, 6th, and two teams tied for 9th

Two years ago in 12u, the PAC zone boys finished 1st (Norcal), 9th (Stanford), 15th (680), 17th (CCU), 21st (Lamo), and 23rd (SHAQ). Other than outlier Norcal, these are significantly lower placings than we typically see from these Norcal powerhouses. These are all now the 14u teams we see competing and they put only one team in the top 12 at Kap7 this past weekend. It’s just typically been a bit of a “down” year/age group for these clubs for some reason.

I think time will tell if this is a macro trend or just a down year. My own hypothesis is that rising costs are a big factor.
