Is anyone following / covering the JCs / Community colleges for possible transfers?
I saw on another board discussions ended around 2022. Are teams like Golden West, Saddleback or OCC still strong? Do players transfer from these schools?
FYI for Men’s Polo. Same two almost every year at top with similar roster makeup
Ah I see this is Fantastic thanks! Do any of the players move on?
That’s a good question I don’t have the full answer for, especially as of recent years. In years past some very good players came thru JuCo due to HS academics, costs, or simply late bloomers.
Thanks for the info! I appreciate it
When we were at the OC Showcase, the academic advisor discussed JuCo’s and pointed out majority of the kids are finished after two years. Those who continue on playing end up at Private schools (Pepperdine, Concordia, LMU, etc…).
This is an interesting development for players considering JUCO:
apparently NCAA has granted all players who played at JUCO and had their eligibility expire after this school year, one more year of eligibility. I am not sure that effects many of the top players, maybe helps Cal state Fullerton keep a few more guys for one more season. At this time it is a one time deal, while NCAA appeals the Pavia ruling. I am hearing from Soccer parents that this is a disaster for this years graduating class. lots of kids getting kicked down the road with roster limits and extended eligibility for Juco transfers.
The season is wrapping up in the next couple of weeks. Anything of note happen this season? Anybody following JUCO at all?
I do, I enjoy the Juco option and love to see kids grind out out and make it to the next level. There are a few US kids doing well and hope a few find spots at the D1/D2 level to continue. Many more from overseas have figured out the JUCO path with most JUCOs having 3-5 internationals. West Valley has 10, Golden West has 9. Saint Mary’s and Fullerton will probably snag a bunch.
Should preface that I do not know much about Juco water polo. I think Donovan Swann (DVC) is a pretty good player.
Fordham and Davis coaches, among others I’m sure, were doing a little scouting at GWCC this past week/weekend…
Thanks, are there any websites that track JUCO standings?
How often do kids from JUCO make a leap to D1?
Junior college water polo is governed by the CCCAA. Rankings and stats are available at their site here.
Golden west just beat Pomona
I believe Cuesta also beat Pomona earlier in the year.
Pomona-Pitzer sat all their starters v. Cuesta and multiple starters v. Golden West. Those are Exhibition games where PP works to develop their young players.
Any updates here? Golden West, and then a group playing for second?
GW 15 - LBCC 8.
Going for #9.
Golden West 15 LBCC 8
