While I don’t have any inside info, looking at Futures, Sand Canyon was very competitive, right on the line of D1 and D2 for most of this past spring season. I believe they are closely affiliated with Yucaipa HS, or many of their players feed to Yucaipa.

Last season, Yucaipa HS made the semifinals of CIF SS D1, losing to Westlake by one goal. During the regular season, Yucaipa beat Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach, among others, played Buena tough, and lost to CDM 13-10 at CDM’s pool. They were very well coached and a very tough out.

Appears to be an outgrowth of the Redlands Univ. water polo community, which is great to see.

Chances are Mission 16s had a few playing 18s.

Rumor is Mission moved all their best 16s to 18s for the summer. A quick look at the Future Super Finals seeding bears that out as they moved down to D3 after being top of D1 during the league season.

A post was split to a new topic: Futures Superfinals

So for 18U Girls out of SoPac I think that these are the seedings for JOs:

SOCAL 1
REGENCY 3
NEWPORT BEACH 4
SET BLACK (A) 8
LEGACY 19
CHAWP WHITE (A) 28

I don’t think that’s correct. The seedings are heavily based on last year’s finish. I think SET will likely be seeded #1 even tho they finished 4th.

I believe Mamba has it right. It is based on last year for the zone only, not the team that finished there. So if Sopac won 18U girls last year, the top seed for Sopac would get the 1 seed, being Socal if they won JO quals for SOPAC.

Correctamamba! While odd because it does not take into account how particular clubs and zones doing this year, this is how it works.

Taking last year’s 18U Boys as an example, the top ten were as follows:
1 SPZ Newport Beach Water Polo
2 SPZ Mission Water Polo Club
3 PAC CC United
4 CST Los Angeles Premier
5 SPZ Mission Water Polo Club
6 SPZ SOCAL Water Polo Foundation
7 PSW San Diego Shores Water Polo Club
8 PAC Atherton Water Polo Club
9 CEN American River Water Polo Club
10 PAC 680 Water Polo

Which means that SPZ qualifiers 1-4 will be seeded 1, 2, 5, 6, respectively. PAC’s top three qualifiers take seeds 3, 8, and 10. Coastal top qualifier gets seed 4, PSW top qualifier gets seed 7, and Central top qualifier gets seed 9 (and so on).

You can see where your zones ended up here:

And here’s the “legalese” for how this all works:

Seeding
6.4(d) The Championship Finals for National Junior Olympics and the Champions Cup shall be seeded based upon the results of the prior year’s National Junior Olympics and Champions Cup, respectively, in each age/gender bracket as follows:

  1. Each Zone shall submit the final standings for all teams participating in its Zone Qualifying Tournament to USA Water Polo within 48 hours of the completion of the tournament.
  2. The team placing first in the Zone Qualifying Tournament from the Zone of the team that placed first in the last year the Championship was played in each age/gender group shall be the first seeded team in the current year’s Championship Finals. The highest unseeded team from the Zone of the team that placed second in the prior year’s Championship in each age/gender group shall be the second seeded team in the current year’s Championship Finals, and so forth until all teams from Zones having teams that participated in the prior year’s Championship Finals have been seeded. After each of the foregoing teams has been seeded, the CFMC shall seed any remaining teams using the Random Draw Method.

For CEN zone quals 2025, Bulldog WPC finished first and Arroyo Grande finished second.

You are correct on this. My information is wrong

barin,

NEZ 1 Navy
NEZ 2 Greenwich

P.S. The post is intended as a reply to barin. I did not intend to reply to cmbreeze’s post.

This is a spot-on post. I’ve done a number of games with Sand Canyon 16s this year for GOLS. This is essentially Yucaipa’s varsity next year. HC Hunter Starkey and Travis Harp have done a tremendous job. They are a fundamentally sound bunch who play the right way…clean and physical.
