With a few tournaments now underway and the SoCal girls HS season wrapped up — what are people seeing so far?
Kicking off with K7, Cal Cup, Futures.

It is going to be interesting, Girls numbers seem way down. Seeing merging, playing up to fill teams out. NorCal girls seem solid but So Cal is in trouble at the 16 and 18 level in my deck side conversations. Some are blaming it on volleyball most say Flag Football is taking all of the athletic aggressive girls. Hard to persuade them to not do football when there is talk of a paid professional league just around the corner!
16’s south coast seems to have gone out and widened their net for talent to give 805 a run for their money. lots of girls missing for spring break the first weekend actually every weekend rosters seem to be different or missing people. I would bet JO qual rosters are different than Futures rosters for some clubs as girls cant really change futures teams but nothing hold them to that team for JO’s.
I wonder if the price tag associated with clubs will go down to try and entice customers? Supply and demand would dictate that is one path but that only works if it is viewed as a service (which it truly is).
Noticed a number of new club teams forming in both NorCal and SoCal, which is definitely thinning the herd a bit and spreading talent more than in past years.
At Cal Cup, Stanford 16U girls edged SBWPC in a tight one and took first, and 680 (another NorCal squad) finished second — so NorCal showing strong early depth at that age group.
Right now the NorCal teams have probably established their JO rosters more so than SoCal teams, since their club season started back in December, and SoCal season stated last month. Some players can’t actually commit until their HS swim season and school year ends, and then they start showing up a certain clubs, once they think they know which side of the street, is the grass greener. ![]()
Stanford 16s look strong. 18s look weaker than they have in a long time.
Why doesn’t futures or many of these tournaments publish rosters? Particularly for 16u and 18u?
I think they will be posted for SuperFinals.
Newport 14u girls are unbeatable this year. Almost uncomfortably lopsided and takes away the drama.
Far more interesting matchups down the line
Next year should be more interesting
Anyone catch the SoCal girls Futures games? Looks like the rankings are pretty much set now for both NorCal and SoCal.
