100%, if they are worked up about 12U most likely their kids will burn out in 14U, give it a rest.. I read one post about 10U team being unbeatable, I watched them win a game. So great that they knew how to swim and the other team did not. Let the kids play, let the coaches coach. Enjoy it while it lasts, it goes by so fast.

This is quite entertaining. Kudos for someone trying to rank 12U or younger. It is hilarious to hear about a 10U team being dominate. I do worry about kids when adults get worked up about made up rankings of 10-12 year olds.

Top 21 12u Girls Water Polo Teams
mid-week #33

1 – Lamorinda – Crushing everyone they play in Futures. Two years ago, this team came within 1 point of winning the national championship in 10u girls.

2 – Patriot – Stumbled versus Back Bay at Turbo OC Cup, but otherwise has looked dominant this season. Notably they beat SB 805 by 1 point in Cal Cup play 3 weeks ago.

3 – SB 805 – This is the team who beat Lamorinda two years ago in the 10u championship game, and this year they only have a single loss in Cal Cup play.

4 – Los Alamitos – Played up in 14u gold at Turbo OC Cup and won silver. Los Al also has recent wins over San Clemente and Back Bay in Futures.

5 – San Clemente – Finished second at Turbo OC Cup and is tied for the points lead in Futures.

6 – Back Bay – Beat San Clemente at Turbo OC Cup then one week later lost to San Clemente at Futures.

7 – Commerce – Cal Cup monsters. They beat everyone they face by at least 5 points.

8 – Diablo Alliance – Won Frozen Cup and dominated in week #1 in Cal Cup.

9 – Davis – Tied for second in Futures and had a nice 7-5 win over Stanford 3 three weeks ago.

10 – Stanford – Had a victory over Davis in Frozen Cup in January and grabbed a victory over 680 in Futures.

11 – Greenwich – Took Davis to a shootout before falling short 6.2-6.4 at Frozen Cup

12 – Del Mar – Futures week #3 resulted in a ‘rock-paper-scissors’ with Newport and SD Shores. Del Mar gets the nod for their 4th place at Turbo OC and 2nd at KAP7 International.

13 – SD Shores – Fell two points short in their battle versus local rival Del Mar, but ended with a two point victory over Newport in the aforementioned Futures week #3.

14 – Newport – Quietly having a solid season as they win most of their games in Cal Cup and sit near the points lead in Futures.

15 – 680 Drivers – Won bronze at KAP7 International in February.

16 – South Bay United – Tied for the points lead in Futures D2 and placed 5th at Turbo OC four weeks ago.

17 – LB Shore Aquatics – Got their first win in Futures D1 in week #3, and had a nice 9-6 win over Foothill as they finished 4th at KAP7 International.

18 – Foothill – Tied for the points lead in Futures D2, and finished 5th at KAP7 International.

19 – San Jose Express – Near the top in North Futures D1 points, and finished 6th at KAP7 International.

20 – SOCAL – Finished 7th at Turbo OC four weeks ago and playing well in Futures D2.

21 – South Coast – Playing well in Cal Cup including a win over LA Premier early in the season.

LOL :joy: That’s the funniest post of the season.

we should just harass all the people that put effort into giving this forum insight into the world of water polo so that they stop giving us these comprehensive rankings and interest in the sport dies. First Marco, then Jeff for sure

Jeff does not usually dip below 16U. Once kids age up to 16’s you start to see a separation between good and mediocre. I have no problem with rankings, I enjoy it for what it is, one persons opinion. Marco seems to be involved in the younger age groups and Jeff has ties to olders. Keep them coming but lets not bicker about teams full of 11 year old’s, that starts to get weird.

Sctrojanje,

You jump to assumptions too fast, and maybe you should ask yourself why.

My kids have never played for Diablo, and I have no ties to the club. I know it is hard to believe for parents like you, but this is the truth. There are very easy ways to verify it if you insist - you can ask Jeff for example.

In general, I think that it is not a good idea to do rankings for 12U. First, these are just 12U kids we are talking about - it is way too early to make any forecasts. Parents should bother about other things.

Marco knows reasonably well the boys age group club scene in Socal but probably does not know much about girls water polo, certainly not in Norcal. When he posted the rankings, I tried to help by DM (again, I have no ties to Diablo). He essentially brushed it off.

The problem with the rankings:

  1. There probably should be no rankings for 12U, period.
  2. If somebody insists on doing it, that person at least should know the club scene. For example, Frozen Cup has very good A and not B teams in the Platinum division year after year. Often, for example the last two years, the 12u team that wins it finishes in the top three at the JO. In 2023, it was 680 vs Diablo in the finals. Last year, it was Diablo vs Greenwich with Stanford coming third (4th finish at JO). Now compare with what Marco wrote. Again, there is no problem if somebody say from San Diego does not know the Norcal water polo scene, but it leads to bad rankings.
Similarly, Marco relies on Futures but does not know that Diablo often does not play in Futures and when it does, it sends a B team.
  3. There is no way one can compare most good Socal clubs with Norcal clubs.
Just for fun, let us talk about Diablo, btw can I repeat for 100th time that I have no ties to the club
In club competition, Diablo has only one recorded loss as far as I know, a 5:6 loss to Lamo. Why it is 8th in the revised rankings, and say not 3rd, 4th, or 7th? Like I want to hear anybody making a prediction about say Back Bay vs Diablo game, San Clemente vs Diablo game, or Commerce vs Diablo
  4. Marco completely ignored Norcal Cal Cup games, probably because he simply was not aware about them.
  5. Marco wrote that he assumed that Frozen Cup was populated by B teams but then placed Greenwich 10th based on their SO loss to Davis at Frozen Cup, the tournament won by Diablo.
If Diablo winning the tournament was not good to get them in top 20, how come Greenwich loss there was good enough to make them to top 10? So again, Diablo wins the tournament, beating Davis 9:4 and Stanford 6:1- not good enough for top 20, Greenwich loses there to Davis and beats SHAQ by one - good enough for top 10.

In short, the rankings for 12U could be done much better and one has to wait for SD Cup to have any kind of clarity. Still, I think it is not a smart idea to begin with. Looks odd, but this is just me.

I obviously regret even touching this pit of snakes, but this is my problem - I just tried to help, probably way too awkwardly.

Cheers.

Bringing this thread back to life. This weekend is the final weekend of Futures League for 16u and 18u girls in SoCal, which will determine SuperFinals seeding. Any exciting matchups anyone is looking forward to or predictions? Hoping GOLS will be livestreaming.

Content cannot be retrieved…

Poor planning, CIFSS D1 swim finals and SD section D1 and D2 swim finals are tomorrow. Most teams will be missing some of their fastest swimmers. Oh and mothers day on Sunday, but most moms would rather be watching their girls play anyways.

NorCal 12u and 14u girls are tomorrow as well!

14u

  1. Stanford A
  2. Lamorinda A
  3. Santa Cruz
  4. Davis

12u

  1. Stanford A
  2. Lamorinda A
  3. Davis
  4. 680 A

Can someone explain how they do the seedings for superfinals?

Well this is a ‘club’ tournament, not a high school one, so I assume most team will field their “JOs” teams, which will include graduating high school seniors, unless they are swimming in the CIF swim finals

With CIF-SS swim finals, the most interesting matchups are probably 16U San Diego teams. Undefeated LJU vs Del Mar day 1, and winner of that likely has SD Shores on day 2. Good preview of JO Quals - although the top 14U San Diego 2024 team Odin will not be at Futures.

When Futures first came on to the scene for girls, it did feel like high schools were truly featuring their “future” varsity players and not playing their outgoing seniors. The exception to that was Newport and it felt like the rest of the teams eventually transitioned back to their club teams.

So it would be odd to see that Newport is just now deciding to hold out their outgoing seniors.

My top 6 18U rankings assuming everyone has their full club line-up (which has not been often so far in Futures League):

SB 805
SET
Regency
Newport
Legacy
SOCAL

I’m not including Norcal teams

Hope you do another of these. Despite what some people thought it was a good write up!

Can you include the NorCal teams? I’m curious as to where you would slot them in.
