Girls 2024 All-Central Coast Section team?

Seen the lists for the boys, anyone seen one for the Girls CCS?

where did this list originate? Is there one for 2025?

The coaches have the lists. The regions should publish them. I don’t know why they don’t. Everyone is left scouring social media for information.

The list posted above is from last year. CCS/coaches met this week. Boys info was posted by a high school boys asst coach on Instagram. Nothing on girls yet.

I also heard that the coaches who made this list only allowed CCS Open Team Athletes to be on first team which seems extremely unfair.

Heard they actually ranked the best CCS players on the first team, who all ended up being from the open division teams. The drop off from the top 3 was huge so it makes sense how it all worked out

Not true, this is from Eric Rise who ran the meeting:

I would like to make a proposal to be more efficient. I think the 1st team selections should go to Open division teams as follows:

Champion, SHP - 3

Runner-up, Soquel - 2

Semi-finalists, Leland & Mitty - 2

5-8 Open, Paly, St. Francis, Aptos, and Menlo - 1 each

I believe that that 5-8 teams need to be rewarded ahead of the D1 & D2 teams for qualifying for Open. The fact that they made Open means they had players in the top of our section. We would still need to rank the players in first team for All American.

I would then recommend 12 2nd team and 12 3rd team, and not worry about Honorable Mention.

“Drop off from the top 3?”

The boys’ division of CCS appears to have handled the matter fairly and in accordance with the rules. Two athletes selected for the First Team were not part of the Open division teams. An athlete’s team failing to qualify for the Open division should not disqualify that individual from earning a legitimate place on the First Team. Excluding them on that basis alone would be inequitable.

Completely agree with this!

Look at the ccs open girls scores… the 1-3 seeds dominated in the quarterfinals showing there is a big drop off from them and the other teams in open. Only competitive games in CCS open this year was the Leland Soquel semifinal which was decently close until soquel ran away with it in the 4th, and the ccs championship game of soquel and SHP

Compared to the boys ccs open division where 2 vs 7 was a one goal game and the 6 seed beat the 3 seed I’d say that shows there is a big drop off in the girls open division. Not criticizing those teams or coaches but just pointing out different levels of competitiveness

ahhhh, yes agreed. I thought by “top 3” you were referring to the athletes…LOL

Agree that there should be an official announcement from the section coordinators. What do you suggest be done to encourage more effective coordination of these types of announcements? I wonder if other sections have similar disjointed communications.

I think there a a few options.

  1. Contact the CIF- CCS staff directly and make the request. Website: CIF-Central Coast Section

  2. If your son or daughter plays high school water polo, speak with their coach and request that they publish the results and inquire directly with CCS.

  3. If you have the list or any information - send to the local news papers. San Jose, San Mateo and Santa Cruz. All have local papers that report on water polo and typically have dedicated reporters. You can find them on Google.
