I don’t think we should go below four schools per team or four categories per week. If we need to reduce the number of categories each week because we have more than 10 participants, I recommend we keep the existing five categories and allow team owners to select the four categories they wish to use in a particular week.
Under the existing rules, I think we have overvalued the “goals scored” category by a fair margin. I recommend we start with a baseline number, perhaps 6 or 8. A team would receive a point for every goal their school scores above that number.
Here are my recommendations for the other four categories:
“Wins” - 10 points if your team wins instead of 8
Losses - 10 points if your team loses instead of 8
“Goals allowed” - I’d start with the number 20 instead of 22
“Goal differential” - no changes
@clark — is there any change in the rules: 5 categories and each person gets 8 teams? And, any changes to scoring?
Suggestions: there is a big difference between the top 5 teams next 5 and the rest of the 10 and then the rest. If we are 10 people, you might want to allow for two people to have the same team so we all have at least one pick from the top 5 and we don’t end up in a situation where one person gets #1 and one #10. The way you can do that is have the top 10 team twice, so #1 and #2 both gets their first pick assuming it is #1 ranked, and so forth.
yeah i was thinking that, my original team has a good variety. What category you use each team is the most important factor. So if 2 people have the same teams they will not always use them the same. You might be able to run it but allow each team to be picked two times, once they are chosen twice they are off the table. So UCLA goes to the first two picks and then the draft continues.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough good college water polo teams to support more than a 5-person draft with 4 or 5 categories. Therefore, I agree with wp2024 and rolled1 that we should allow a school to be drafted twice for our 9-person draft.
@clark Jeff mentioned to me that I have not place my picks for the week. I am a bit confused. I saw that three other participants did not place either, WaPo , Trevor , and WPolo9.
I placed my picks on Sunday in the Squad structure and did not know that the individual structure replaces the squad this week, when some of the games already played this week.
I, and I assume the other three, are unable to place this weeks selections as the system is closed.
Anyway to open it this morning before action starts? Otherwise, can you carry our points from the squad to individual or this week?
We’ve ran into this a couple times, is there something that would help y’all get the picks in?
I can send out email reminders but don’t want to spam the group.
I’m thinking something like:
“hey, you don’t have any picks this week and you have hours to go”

I could also create “default dumb selections” so an absentee member has the opportunity to get some points where a machine just automatically picks based on first match available or something like that.
I think you do both. you could set up a DM group with all players, we set one up for “the Squad” i would get email notifications and if i opened the website i would have messages. an auto pick is better than no picks if someone is traveling or cant make the deadline.

@WPolo9 looking at your messages now. It looks like you made picks on the “pre-merged” squad. I’ll see how much overlap we have with your new squad picks and we’ll figure it out.

The winning formulate for this game appears to be something like “Points Scored” is your anchor, and you MUST hit your win + loss picks. The battle happens on the “Points Allowed” and “Points Differential” strategy.
I’m very curious to see how this evolves as we go later into the season. Will we see less “swings” as we approach more parity in games?
I can see lower ranked teams getting more valuable as I’m predicting a bit more variance in scores outside of the top 5-or-so teams.

A few UI updates coming in the next week or so:
I’m going to remove the legacy squads from your panels so we don’t run into situations where we accidentally pick the wrong selection window.
Instead of locking picks at an arbitrary time, you’ll be able to make selections for a team that has not yet played a match that week.
I don’t like that we need to click into another user’s detail page to see their previous round picks, I’m planning on surfacing that on the main squad page.
Fix bug where points by team is always showing 0 on the detail page.
@clark i don’t see any of the mpfs initial round games on the selection page. I have UCI and I dont see it . very little to choose from without the first round added. Thanks
