In the first “upset” of the 2026 season, Yucaipa beat Mater Dei 14-10 on August 14. With no disrespect intended to Yucaipa which played a good game, Mater Dei will be without two starters for the 30-day sit-out-period and a third starter will miss the first 3 games.

It’s gonna be a tough game when the starting goalie has to take the field due to exclusions.

Ace Chen will miss the first 3 games, then he’ll be back. Owen Grabow and Parker Johnson will be eligible after the 30 day SOP.

JSerra 12 -7 over Harvard-Westlake. Harvard-Westlake was missing Harry Siafaris and JSerra was missing Joe Wraith.

30 goals seems a little gratuitous doesn’t it? There have been plenty of mismatches where the superior team, who has nothing to prove, can let off the gas and stay in the 20 goal window.

Posting this here since maybe a Newport parent flagged it in the HS Scores thread. If you go watch the Newport/CC game that was posted in that thread, listening to the parents argue calls, and most of the time being biased and wrong, we are lucky to have refs willing to work our sport. The proximity to the refs and the constant complaining is not a great thing. The refs showed great patience.

This happens in every game, every sport, everywhere in the world—especially when two of the top teams in the country are playing. There will always be parents and fans from both sides on the edge of their seats reacting to calls. Especially if you’re streaming from right in the middle of the home crowd, I’m not sure what you expect to hear!No need to make Newport the poster child for it.

Totally get it. Been around sports my entire life and have seen it and you are not wrong. The proximity doesn’t help and the blatant ignorance is what makes it a bit heightened. Newport will be ok. What I expect is not going to happened, so I know it is a bit of a pipe dream. But since you asked, I expect a bit more respect to the refs. And if you are going to yell at them, at least be educated and correct.

In a recent official setting a rule change was brought up that I think was being called in that game. Contrafouls for a forward pass into the 2M might have been called (hard to tell from the angle).
Anyone else aware of this new rule or have an opinion on whether thst was the actual contrafoul called?
Fair enough, and I agree the refs deserve respect. My only point was that passionate parents questioning calls is hardly unique to Newport. Put a microphone in the middle of the home crowd at almost any high-level game and you’re probably going to get some colorful commentary!

Agree this is not school specific.
This rule is in place but is so easy to get wrong. To be a foul, the pass has to be forward and to a player inside 2m. So a forward pass to exactly 2m that gets caught and shot (from whatever position, in or at or outside 2m) is often perceived by the front court ref as forward inside 2m.
“Another result of the goal area change was the creation of Rule 6-11-3. Now, a player in the goal area of the attacking team can never be in front of the line of the ball at any time during the game. If a pass within the goal area flies toward the goal line ahead of receiving player(s), an ordinary foul must be called, even if the two attacking players were at the same line at the moment of the pass.
The pass to a player inside the goal area must be on a straight line or behind. “This rule also assists officials to correctly call ‘inside the goal area’ violations. It makes the rule clearer for a play that is so close to the goal that it can be scored more easily,” Searcy said.”

That has been the interpretation of the rule for 2 years. I don’t remember that being called yesterday, but it could have been. I saw some push offs called.
