Best WP pool with nice shade for audience

To me, the corona Del Mar Highschool pool quipped shades best for WP tournament audience (one of the SuperFinal pools);

As a contrast, the Yorba Linda High that quicksilver using is the worst, and audience is in a BBQ mode, sad that quicksilver selling ticket of $35 cannot afford a portable shade for parents of two teams

Hands down Jserra. No competition

USC pool. Why can’t we have a major youth tournament with USC as the anchor facility pool? Great shade both sides.

It’s not El Toro. Most newer pools have at least something. I like Newport with the stands on both sides and the northeast side having so many rows.

Ok. Wasnt accounting for universities

Quality shade at most pool decks depends on the time of day. But for most coverage throughout the day plus for the largest attendance, it’s probably JSerra. Second is probably CdM. Third is probably Newport, but the north side of the pool isn’t as good as the smaller south side. Not a huge fan of the USC shade structure, as too many times in the afternoon there’s zero shade. Avery has the most shade, but only on the south side (don’t bother with the north side for a daytime game)….

SOCAL pools in general have much better shade. Up in norcal I can only think of 4-5 pools in the large tournament rotation that have shade. I’m at UC Irvine next week which looks to have zero shade based upon google maps images :frowning:

Orange coast college is the best in my opinion. Someone in a previous thread said it is too expensive (which is why it never gets used).

Seems like OCC rarely host. From pictures looks like good shade in the afternoon. Morning looks rough…

Different topic relating to pools: yesterday in the PM, the Servite pool was unplayable. Players complained it is like playing in warm acid. Water temperature too high and Ph level burns their eyes to a level they cannot play effectively. We had players sitting on the bench with eyedrops and unable to play. This is not great. Not sure whether there are ‘better’ or ‘worse’ pools on those dimensions: temp and controlling Ph level.

My vote for the very best WP pool judged on the criteria of shade for the audience is BBMAC, the pool for Coronado High School. The canopy is a roof with solar pool heaters, not fabric, and the slope descends toward the pool. The layout of the pool is mostly east-west with the stands on the north side which means the shade is good in the morning, mid-day, and late afternoon with no glare.

Sadly I’m only at that venue for San Diego County Cup and PSW JO Quals, but if I had to pick my #1, BBMAC is it.

Yorba Linda High pool similar … high chemicals drove us to a drug store to find eyedrops for my son

I think it will be good to have a list of pool rankings along all metrics like chemicals, shades, parking… so that players and parents can prepare better… cost of course should be included but usually that is not accessible for most of us.

Hi WP2024,

I really appreciate that feedback. I have regular Ph testing on the pool to ensure the athletes competing in any event or in trainings can be as comfortable as possible. Obviously based on what you are saying, something appears to be off. Thank you for bringing this up and I will do some investigation with our staff to ensure the water is a better experience for the athletes in the future.
