Hey guys, I’m trying to build a PVC pipe cage for Splashball to go in my outdoor pool for my youngest son. Does anyone have a blueprint for this? It would be extremely helpful.
look on instructabales.com, I saw one there a few years ago. splash ball cage is 2.05M W x 0.75M H
I have one for my son and daughter, it was slightly smaller than regulation length wise when they first started (too get in the 12U/14U cage size), then I was able to expand it as they got older with wider pipe.
I recommend to make it similar to a wall cage, and for the joints, if you plan of expanding it outward as he gets older, use Furniture Grade PVC fittings. It takes the abuse of chlorine, sun and kids pounding the cage on the concrete as they pull it in and out. You don’t have to glue the fittings in, just use a rubber mallet to make everything tight, so you can pull it apart in the winter when it gets cold.
You can use a tarp or purchase online netting, I used soccer netting and drapped it over the cage and zip tied it down.
Hope this helps. Also, I did not make any plans, I just thought of what it should look like and went with it.
Thank you both so much, greatly appreciated!
I built one for my kid and her friends. Full size regulation. The only difference, or addition, to the answers mentioned above were:
- Glue because water would leak in (I’m no structural engineer though in my defense)
- Foam to improve float-ability
Good luck!
I also built one, similar to what Sctrojanje describes. If I can figure out how to upload the picture on this thread I will, as it might help. It’s also a wall cage that sits on the deck and it’s been on there, year-round for years. The only thing that breaks occasionally are the tie wraps that hold the canvas tarp in the back.
I even found targets at a hockey shop, to hang in the corners.
