Here is a link to the Google document for this weekend’s Central Valley Showdown and my predictions for the “A” Division:

  1. Soquel. I won’t be surprised if Leland wins.
  2. Leland
  3. Miramonte. Miramonte could win if two of their top players return to action.
  4. Clovis
  5. Arroyo Grande
  6. Garces Memorial
  7. Clovis West
  8. Merced

My predicted order for top 10 Central Valley Showdown

  1. Soquel or Leland
  2. Leland or Soquel (coin flip)
  3. Miramonte (agreed)
  4. Arroyo Grande (I think this is the best team in Central Section)
  5. Clovis (Led by the best coach in the Central Section)
  6. Buchanan (Strong Senior Class)
  7. Reedley (if Reedley wins, they will have beaten Clovis North and Clovis West in same year)
  8. Clovis West
  9. Garces
  10. Merced

I am not sure that your predicted top 10 order for CVS is possible :slight_smile: Just two examples:

  1. Arroyo Grande and Soquel cannot finish both in the top four, thanks to somewhat strange seeding -unless Soquel is brining their JV team or missing many important starters, their seed #8 makes zero sense. Also, Buchanan will likely finish third in their group behind Soquel and AG and play for 9th-12th.

  2. Merced and Clovis North cannot both miss on the top eight (one of them has to finish no lower than second in their group and play for 1st-8th).

P.S. If I had to guess I would predict the top five finishes to be Soquel, Leland, Miramonte, Clovis, and AG, followed, in some order, by Garces, Clovis West, and Merced/Clovis North.

Clovis West beat Leland 16-15 (OT) and Soquel beat AG 14:4. Has Leland’s #8 played? If so, a big win for Clovis West!

Leland is also missing their lefty #11. So they are down a starter.

Semifinals:
Miramonte 13, Soquel 11
Clovis 12, Clovis West 11

Championship game:
Miramonte 23, Clovis 9

3rd place game:
Soquel 17, Clovis West 5

Can anybody explain to me the wisdom of the tournament organizers ( Clovis West, Clovis?) who seeded Soquel as #8. I hope there is some nice explanation for this but it may look to some as an attempt to keep AG out of the top 4. Sort of, we give you number one seed but then force you to play the best ( OK, turned out to be the second best) team in the Quarterfinals.

P.S. Also, it looks like the score for the 5th place game on the CVS Results page should be reversed. It is Leland 20 AG 14, and not another way around. C.Flynn scored 11.
