1/3 of Newport “18u” girls were those rostered for 14u in upcoming JO.

Dons this tourment seemed to be missing a few of there top players and still won in a close competitive game to Harvard westlake. Cathedral at full strength is the clear number team but for southern section it’s up in the air. The top 6 teams can all compete with eachother and it’s anyone’s game. Newport , Oaks , Harvard westlake , Long Beach Wilson , Cdm , jserra ( not in tournament ) are looking like the top team and it’s going to be a very competitive year in cif

Would’ve liked to have seen J Serra in this tournament on both the girls and boys side to get a better preview for the fall in the CIF-SS.

This tournament is a foreshadow of things to come this fall season on the boys side in my opinion. There were some crazy games and wild finishes. This is the most parity I’ve seen in boys high school water polo in quite some time. JSerra (not in this tournament) and Harvard-Westlake look like the Top 2 teams right now in CIFSS. In terms of national rankings, Santa Margarita, Beckman, Loyola, Mira Costa, Redwood, Campolindo, Menlo, San Ramon Valley, De La Salle, The Bishops, and La Jolla will boast very good teams this season as well.

  1. Cathedral Catholic–played two grinding exciting games vs Harvard-Westlake. Braylen Axline played on Thursday against CDM, but he didn’t play in final against Harvard-Westlake. Junior Diego Dantas was not there all tournament as well as Jett Taylor (National Team). Their depth, goalie play are quite good. Jack Davis, Max Bruhn, Eamon Bruhn, and Grayson Taylor led the way.

  2. Harvard Westake: Jack Grover has this team humming. Samuel Tabib and Krish Desai are a solid goalie tandem. Harry Siafaris (USC commit) and junior Asher Chemerinski are quite the one-two punch. Sophomore William Gorsche has a cannon. and junior Jesus Jimenez Jr., Lukas Kovacevic, junior Soren Messinger, Evan Vourakis, Zac Wiezorek, Jayden Zepeda provide quality depth.

  3. Newport Harbor: This is a very young team (lost 14 seniors) and they are developing. Solid goalie play in Lian Kim and junior Oliver Aguerro, Juniors Sean Anderson and Caruso Polenzani lead the way along with sophomore center Owen Marks. Juniors Cooper Kelly, Davis Kipp, and Jack Norton had bright moments as did sophomores Weston Muellerleile and Curren Francisco.

  4. LB Wilson: The surprise team of the tournament. Led by a senior-laden line-up of goalie Christian Marov-Perez (played well) and a productive left side in Nicholas Tramontano and Vaughn Baker. Senior Fernando “Pakal” Rejon can play center and defender and is the glue. Senior Wyatt Sprenger had some bright moments. Junior Nolan Kerry and sophomore Shane Radaich are improving. Senior Ace Dufault can bring it from the perimeter.

  5. Miramonte: They have immense talent on the perimeter and a grinding center in Griffen Maclear. Seniors Grayson Bloes and Trent Smith are explosive seniors as is sophomore Grant Stevens. Junior Mason Tunney is fast and can rip it from the perimeter. Junior Miles Gaffney, Blake Elder are developing. The pieces are evident–can they put the puzzle together. Cal-commit Brady Hassett did not play this weekend.

(5.) Oaks Christian: They are young and developing. Senior goalie Ryder Bjork is solid. Fellow senior Jack Lansing is tough to handle one-on-one. Senior Ethan Hylton had some bright moments. Senior Joshua Coxford can shoot it. Junior Kaan Avcibasioglu is a solid attacker with a productive vertical game. Sophomore Hunter Loo can play multiple positions and is improving.

  1. CDM: HC Lucas Reynolds lost a lot to graduation, but they have a lot coming back including the senior tandem of attacker Koosha Mirrafati and Cal-commit Willam Weir. Fellow senior Wyatt Lussier is a grinder. Juniors Blake Jurevich and Jack Jacobson are providing quality production.
  2. Sacred Heart: Gates Gamble was a consistent scoring machine. Eddie Eiref looks solid coming back from injury. Junior Wilkes Rohlen needs to be consistent. Liked the improvement from seniors Teddy Parrett and Charlie Wagner. Bench development will be key to the season.
