I do not know why the topic of the conversation is always turned to CHAWP by pmg93/ Bar-n. CHAWP is a good team, sure. They lost to two top ten teams that were playing at full strength by 3 and 4 goals
(8:12 to Stanford and 9:12 to Diablo). They beat SD Shores by one and somebody mentioned that Shores were playing without their center. But let us say that Shores were full strength. Then this would be a full body of work against top ten teams playing full strength. Good- sure! Very impressive- maybe not. Anyway, they are a good team with good players and I am sure we all wish their players, coaches, parents/ grandparents the best at the JOs!

Wow. I just woke up this morning and feel like I upset someone. I thought this was a waterpolo forum where we can talk about games. I’ll be sure not to mention CHAWP anymore

I volunteer to help with tournament organization. There are multiple clubs that help with coordination of USCC. I’ve had two weekends of this. Glad I’m done. For now lol. Sorry if I bothered you

Not saying it’s the case here, but since most people on this forum try to keep their identity secret, when they feel people might figure out who they really are, they start to throw ‘smoke screens’ to try to cover their true identity.

Thanks. My grand daughter is having a blast. This will be her first year in Junior Olympics. As far as Ego and parents go I can see that. It’s fun watching them too

I’ve seen multiple comments stating that San Clemente was missing a player, but how about the player they added for this tournament wearing the #9 cap. She is the best player from Greenwich where she wears the #2 cap. Any idea how she played here this weekend? She wore a USA suit, but still carried her Greenwich bag.

I didn’t know about another player joining… that there’s just shows always stuff going on to get an advantage. Too bad it takes playing time of a SC player who was committed all year. Maybe that’s why there has been grumbles these past few weeks there and the results have shown it. But I still think it’s better to probably keep the attention on the adults and not the kids themselves.
As for the not so subtle smoke screen of the chawp parent, I guess that explains the oddity of why every post was defending the coach in the other one 
and also explains why they were there super early “volunteering” lmao 
What it obviously didn’t explain was how they knew so much about Chawp in every single post since the account was created, and why he continuously praise them and then randomly brought up a “granddaughter” at SD Shores. Come on. I haven’t seen this much fishing equipment at Bass Pro Shops.
here’s mine for the detectives. I have a 10u/12u co-ed, a 14u girl sometimes guests on 16u, and a 16u boy who sees more bench time than a tourist at Disneyland but it keeps him out of trouble. They play on rival clubs due to friends which means my wardrobe at tourneys must switch. And a nephew at UCLA and I went to a rival of UCLA which angers him! I coached a small San Diego club many years ago. That should be enough to figure it out. Divorced and remarried. I have no fake granddaughters at San Diego Shores but I do have a lot of ties back to that club.
Now can we please just get back to talking about JOs?

JO Seeding & Rules
I wonder if anyone’s ever given any thought to changing how the SEEDING works in JO.
I know there are rule changes when it comes to the two point shot and how 5 m are assessed over the years and I think a lot of things have been done well in those changes, but I think it is high time that they address a few things
Proposed Rule change. A player must be on the roster by March 1 to be able to play in JO eliminating the club hopping prior to JO and displacing players who were committed to the team. I don’t agree with what SC just did if that is indeed the case. A good ball don’t lie moment. There really shouldn’t be any new players joining from other clubs or internationally. And the cutoff should be moved.
Seeding should not be based on the previous years JO.
Any others that you can think of?
Maybe finally getting one set of birthday rules for JO and ODP?
10 years ago it was unheard of to club hop and there was a lot of shame and definitely some silent politics if you were such a player. Clubs will lose respect and ODP and NTSC selections definitely took into account whether players did that. It seems like since Covid, something has shifted where it’s no longer about the pride of your club
Also, it is escaping me at the moment but what is the rule this year on ties? Does it go straight to a shootout? Memory slipping me.
This is really well said wpolo93. I think it’s because certain clubs didn’t show up to super finals or play futures and then wonder why on a back-to-back weekend tournament why would teams not send their full rosters?
I absolutely do think many teams will surprise and at least one team will crack into the final four that you may not have expected
My prediction is that one of Stanford, Shores Black, Chawp, Diablo, Santa Cruz will get to the final 4 and that at least one team like San Clemente, Patriot, 908, will drop down to 5th-8th bracket. Why? Simple bracketology. Closely contested games. Missing players due to Cadet Worlds. It turned a 70/30 into a 55/45 coin tosses. Refs. And that these are 12-14 year olds.
Newport at full strength before losing a player to worlds beat Chawp 12-2 and SC 12-1 at qualifiers. Patriot at full strength, but before losing a player to worlds, beat Chawp 14-3. The Dons beat Newport last weekend. Now you take away some players and the games get closer. That isn’t judgment. If anything, it’s more entertaining. Do you think the Dons are better than Newport because they beat them at US Club Championships? I love the SD Dons and know their coach, but that’s just not the case.
Does anyone realize how excited the benches were for Newport, 908, Patriot, San Clemente, and some backup goalies were to be getting significant playtime on the “A” team and battle it out. That’s someone’s kid. Can we be kinder to them? Does anyone want to talk about the joy of that? Do you think they care that they lost by 2 goals as a result or that a game wasn’t a “blow out”. Heck no
Some people are extrapolating a lot over small Margin wins of Lamo without a goalie, Shores without a center, etc. Really? I do think those teams can be beaten at JOs of course, but let’s not extrapolate based on one scrimmage style weekend of roster juggling.
So anytime we do a prediction or draw conclusion from a result, we are doing everyone a disservice. I have to put a big fat disclaimer on anything that I post apparently that it is not insulting or intended to insult because any of these teams can be beat whether they have their full roster or they are missing players it does not matter.
I’m not sure that I want to put in the effort into giving insight into rosters and high school if all anyone cares about is wins and losses instead of competitive fun.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that sometimes the very best games are the third place and the fifth place game, and a lot of the time the team that finished in fifth would beat the team to finish in fourth or second. That’s how brackets work.

There should be a roster cutoff in spring for JO Rosters. Protects the kids who commit. Play with your club or wait til next season. Make any reason to appeal an undesirable process reserved for SafeSport violations only.

Perhaps the counter point here would be replacing an injured player? I mean you dont want the weight of a late season injury on the poor injured kid that she sunk her team?
Another counter point would be kids that love waterpolo but are not on a team that could qualify. Why tell them they cannot participate?
I am with you though, it irks me that any team is bringing ringers from somewhere else to try and change their results at JOs (or any other tournament). If the team worked together all year then let the cards fall where they may. Enjoy the process. Perhaps some learning is needed if the result is disappointing.
Totally fair. It should be a clearly defined appeals process. This would eliminate the obvious “ringers” which disrespect the girls who worked all year. It would put the stigma in the spotlight and allow for obvious cases to be approved such as injury.
There’s a reason classic exists. Maybe allow a single player who loves water polo to be able to join a different way. But there are plenty of tourneys. There’s a reason all sports have cutoffs and rules and deadlines. Proposing an earlier cutoff is a fair discussion. If a parent wants to remove their kid in March from their club, pay dues, etc. at least it has a chance to appear normal rather than purely a summer ringer.

It’s on a need-to-know basis, and you do not need to know… until the day before it starts.
Seriously though, to have the schedule out more than a week in advance is rare. Nailing down all those pools is a mammoth effort.

Im Well aware. Im more bringing up what we saw last year when the boys JOs schedule came out several weeks before but the girls schedule was the Tuesday before session 2.
