Here are my predictions for the Central Coast Section Open Division Tournament, which begins on Saturday.
-
Sacred Heart Prep. Sacred Heart is seeking its 15th consecutive CCS championship. Brian Kreuzkamp, who has won CIF championships at Sacred Heart, Newport Harbor, and Costa Mesa, won his 600th game as a high school coach earlier this season. This year’s Sacred Heart team isn’t as deep as we’re used to seeing. The potential championship game between Sacred Heart and Menlo could go either way. The schools split their two games this season. Sacred Heart won the regular season league game and Menlo defeated Sacred Heart in last week’s West Catholic Athletic League championship game.
-
Menlo. Menlo coach Jack Bowen is closing in on his 600th career win at Menlo. Menlo is likely to be a top 5 team next year as it returns everyone from this year’s roster, including center/center defender/attacker Hunter Coleman (2028, Stanford, cadet national team).
(3.) Soquel. Soquel and Menlo are likely to face each other in the semifinals. I believe Soquel has the best high school goalie in the country, Rafael Suarez-Abraham (Stanford, youth national team).
(3.) Saint Francis. The first-round game between Saint Francis and Serra could go either way.
