Also, how did they start in D2? Assuming they will be in D1 after the crossover, but that level of talent, with or without practice, should dominate.
They had to start in D2 because they used North Irvine as their club, starting rank based off of last years results/rankings. Kicking the real North Irvine kids, the ones that have paid dues for years, down to D4.
Vanguard 2024 super team started D2 last year (can someone confirm). I don’t believe north Irvine had an 18u team last year.
Yes, Vanguard started in D2 last year. However, based on last year’s Super Finals PV was the 10th Place team in D1 as far as So Cal teams and PV and all the current D2 teams finished higher than Del Mar in D2 Super Finals last year. They we’re 18th. I’m not sure how they were able to jump over all those teams and take the 10th spot in D1. No doubt they would end up there just not sure why other teams like PV, Vanguard, North Irvine, La Jolla (who won D2 Super Finals) had to start in D2?
Yeah I see north Irvine played 16’s but dropped out mid year. I am guessing Dusty discusses with the coaches on where they think they belong and has to do some tweaks. He did say he could not put North Irvine in D1 to start in that podcast.
yes on vanguard and yes sorry that was 2 years ago that NI had a 18s team.
from last year round 1

Is the GOLS footage only available live?
Good question. I assume it would be available as a replay at some point. @GameOnLiveStudio
it is already available on their site GOLS | Game On Live Studio
then go to ‘schedule’ and click the date.
Thanks. I don’t see a “Schedule” section. I see Home, Events, Live, Premium, Podcast, and About
You’re on a slightly wrong site. Need to go to www.live.gols.co. Yes, they have different sites. I was having the same problem
that worked. Thanks!
agree, that was a good battle. LJs man-up efficiency was good and BBs gave them way too many of them.
BBs looked unsurprisingly, low chemistry except for the combinations the 3 Oaks players would put together. They’ll get it together and be really solid, no doubt. Nice to see the Connat kid back in the water - love the way he plays.
Should be a big confidence boost for La Jolla.
That North Irvine team in D4 is also a combination roster with Vegas (came away with 4 wins and will play the cross-over with D3).
That’s interesting. It doesn’t matter for early futures but I assume those kids will then qualify for JOs out of the mountain zone. Can you change club allegiance (twice) between Quals and JOs? That would impact Super Finals.
Futures has rules about sitting out when changing clubs.
I don’t know if this is exclusive or applies to everyone, but i noticed once our zone’s qualifications had started, the option to switch clubs on USA Water Polo was no longer available until after Junior Olympics had concluded.
Yeah, once you’re on a Quals roster you can’t change clubs.
A little exception: you can affiliate with a new club after Quals (and before JO’s) so long as you obtain written approval from USAWP, the request to affiliate with a new club is due to the relocation of the athlete’s family’s principal
place of residence, and you didn’t participate in Quals with your prior club.

Interesting info if you are having trouble sleeping.
Seems like lots of parity at the top of 16u in So Cal.
No blowouts and most of the games in the Oxnard D1 grouping were back and forth affairs with shootouts or 1-3 goal differences that were undecided until deep in 4th quarter.
On the other side of D1 SD Shores upset Del Mar and there were several close games there as well.
CIU Gold and SD Shores both came out 4-0 for the weekend.
In D2 SET, LB Shore, OCWPC, and LaJolla will all look to promote into D1 in February at the Futures crossovers tournaments.
Some folks on deck were saying that several top 16s were at the Youth Academy this weekend but many made it to their Futures games.
Should be a good season!
Del Mar’s 4 best players didn’t play.
