2024 NCAA Season

Was on ESPN +. Only MPSF games are on Overngt. Replay still there. Princeton had the game under control for the most part. It was not as close as the score.

Jamie Davis (new CEO) came from sports media before running USAVB, so it’s no coincidence that we see more VB on TV and likely a big priority for him with USAWP.

Latest coaches poll. 2024 Men's Varsity Polls - Week 6/October 16 - Collegiate Water Polo Association

Pepperdine has loses to Princeton, Long Beach, and UCI. Little odd they are 5?

The loss against Princeton was technically during Week 7, so that will affect next week’s poll. They beat LBSU and did not lose against them. And while UCI beat them, UCI just had a really bad loss to Cal Baptist last week.

After the top five (3 Big 4’s plus Pacific and Fordham), ranking the rest of the teams (6-12) is super difficult. Princeton has shown it can compete with the best but has had shaky losses (Harvard, Cal). Pepperdine has beaten good competition but also lost by 10 to UCI. LBSU has been inconsistent. Irvine had solidified itself at No.6 until the loss to CBU. Cal has only really beat Princeton all year and I predict they will lose to them on Sunday. For Davis and Harvard, outside of two impressive wins (LBSU and Princeton) they have not beaten a notable opponent yet.

Good points, I had the LB game backwards and did not calculate the delay in rankings. And, I agree, but think that 4-12 is going to be a scramble until tournament time.

USC over Princeton 10-7 today. Anyone watch the game? Looks like it was 3-3 at half.

I watched the game last night, two things stood out, both goalies has stellar nights and I don’t think USC allowed Princeton one goal on man up advantage.

Princeton, except for their goalie looked tired and had no legs. Understandable given this West Coast trip.

Is anyone going to discuss the Cutino watch list, and the lack of the 6’7 Mihailo Vucazic, who is currently running through teams. I completely disagree with leaving him out. He is arguably the premier player for the #4 ranked Pacific. I think the cutting should be impacted by team success more. With all due respect I feel Mihailo has played much better than some of the guys on the watch list. AM I MISSING SOMETHING???

My guess on finalists:

R Dodd
Pitman
Temkin
Vucazic

No idea what him being left out of the “watch list” but it makes no sense.

I would swap pitman with robert lopez duart, considering his role at USC

Since its inception the watchlist has never been a good representation of the what’s going on. It’s more of a way to promote some players around the country. Stanford only having 1 player is a joke. Chase Dodd certainly is not even in my top 15 for the award

Pittman is the best player on the #1 ranked team. He’s most likely going to be in the final 3 unless something goes horribly wrong the rest of the season. The mens award has the benefit of nominating well after the champion is determined, so that will go a long way in determining who the 3 are. UOP is going to have to make some noise in the NCAAs to get a nominee.

Any predictions for the UOP Princeton game tonight???

Should be a great game. If Princeton is rested and continues to get good goalie play I’d give them an edge simply because they have had the more competitive schedule. UOP has not showed that many signs of being able to hang with the top 3 this year, regardless of how stacked their roster is.

A chance to show that I’m not great with predictions? I’m in!

Prediction: Tight game in the first half, possibly with Princeton up. UOP looks like a different team in the second half as Pacific pulls out the victory.

Wow, the rankings this week! They are really starting to settle in. Spots 4-6 will flip-flop, I think the top 3 may move within but they will remain…Cal tied for 9, how the mighty have fallen! wow! I really think a GK would move them up to USC. Just me though…Kirk are your shopping? Should be. I thought UCI would fare better, but maybe Cal had a bad day??? UCI had a good day? IDK. Let us segway to answer the Number 16 UCSB team and ranking…I feel I need to respond to the previous UCSB question. My comment on the program is not about their play this season but about the viability of the program. I have no inside information I am just doing the math.
Head coach for 19 seasons, former Olympian and NCAA champion and in those years his facility has crumbled. Without a pool you really have a huge disadvantage. He also was a no-show for most of summer league. Red Flag. Loses long time Assistant coach, Then has a highly qualified Assistant coach leave after 1 season. RF2 He then has another former player as assistant coach for 1 season. RF3. He now has an assistant coach who has no high school or college coaching experience. No high level playing experience. The house is burning down. Now am finding that stats on TheFosh are being changed post game. This should only be done by a coach. I caught this from the Fullerton game. Now I see that BWC uses TheFosh for league stats. If I were a player on any other team in the BWC I would be wondering why UCSB has the many of the highest ranked players while being the 2nd lowest ranked team??? I tried to watch the Fullerton game but the GK passed the ball to the opposing GK in the first minutes of the game. I couldn’t suffer. Then his saves were changed from 9(accurate) to 13. Integrity in sports means everything. Adding this up makes me think there is program issue that could be terminal.

I’d be surprised if Princeton wins given the grueling schedule and playing at UOPs pool. UOP by 2

I cannot wait to watch this game. Really happy it is on ESPN plus. These two teams played earlier this year in what was a thriller. I believe Princeton held an 11-10 lead and Pacific scored two goals over the last two minutes to win the game.

If I can make a request. Pacific is playing Fordham at Santa Clara next Friday night in what is likely the biggest non Big 4 game of the regular season. As Santa Clara is a WCC school that game can be streamed on ESPN Plus. They are in fact streaming their games that weekend per the ESPN plus schedule so the equipment will be poolside. It would be nice if the Broncos streamed the game. Even cooler if they grabbed a couple of students to announce it. My guess is the game would get a nice audience so it could even be a good opportunity for someone who aspires to work in the media.

The Cutino Watch List has always left a lot to be desired. There are so many players listed that have no shot at realistically winning the award, which is fine, but then they only give Stanford, the #1 team, 1 spot?

Last year for the women, they completely left Lauren Steele off of their 22 person list. Steele would end up being a finalist and should have actually won the award.

That was an awesome game. Pacific 12-11. Princeton had their chances. Had the ball with a chance to tie in the final minute.

The Fountain 5 meter stop on Pozaric with four minutes left was incredible as was the Cote long-range shot which proved to be the difference maker. Great game by both teams.
