My goodness, what just happened in the play-in game between New Zealand and Host Brazil. Four NZ players now booted from game. Game has gotten out of control.
Quarters:
USA v Croatia
Spain v Hungary
Netherlands v Italy
Greece v Brazil
USA will play winner of NED/ITA…def a great look at making it to the final likely against a ridiculous Spain team.

Edit. Sorry when they said it was coming up next, I didn’t realize next was over an hour away. Still not imminent, but closer.
Gold medal game about to start.
Good first quarter for the women. Defense has been strong with Carpenter but they have given up too many exclusions which allowed Spain to answer, including the penalty right at the buzzer that allowed Spain to tie. Offense started explosive but slowed a little. Seems like they have some transition opportunities they left on the table as well.

This has been a really tough battle through three periods. The Americans worked hard and got some field blocks to go into the fourth up a goal. They have also done a better job of pushing the Spanish centers outside the post and committing ordinary fouls on the entry pass to avoid the exclusion.
I feel the Spanish are struggling anytime the US can play with pace both in transition and after drawing the exclusions that pace in transition is getting them. Credit to some really pinpoint vertical shooting from the US women in that period as well.

Yeah that’s giving up a goal to end a quarter up one versus tied and another up 1 instead of 2 in this game I believe.

Great game and great performance by the US women. Congratulations to them and the staff on the gold medal. Credit to the Spanish team as well for a very hard fought game. As expected they are always a challenge and rival to the American women.
It was unfortunate that the games didn’t have commentary, but being available on YouTube was welcome as someone mentioned earlier.
