When the project is completed, the City of Irvine estimates that the time span between two Kap 7 game times for the 14U boys will be reduced from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. While this change would allow many families to head home about an hour earlier, it comes with an estimated project cost of $42 million.

My question about this renovation is does this mean we can anticipate Junior Olympics being moved to Southern California permanently?
You can say this is for the Olympics in two years, but could this be a move to centralize the tournament to Southern California?
This pretty much confirms that the national training center won’t be in Irvine (Great Park) like it was originally planned for (and voted for three times). And since the primary tenant for this facility is Nova Aquatics, USAWP will likely take a back seat to USA Swim for this expanded water.
I agree. In 2025 regarding the Great Park facility, and it’s need, it is stated by a council member pointing at the current condition of Woollet: “but that challenge we face today is that Woollett is always full and running over capacity every day of the week“
Well, this expansion takes care of that……maybe. Irvine has tons of money, has had a 30% increase in population over the last 10 years, and Woollett is a central figure in the city. Not just for NOVA, but Irvine High, Concordia, USAWP, and recreational learn to swim programs. It’s been approximately seven years since first discussed of a National Training Center, and nothing has yet to happen.
