I think La Jolla wins. Not sure if anyone at JS can guard Black straight up. I expect a lot of direct shots off of a foul converting to goals.

Agree I think La Jolla has best chance, especially at home! Will be fun if some of the top teams in your unofficial rankings take some early season losses.
If Mission is widely understood to be the alter ego of JSC, LJU is almost the alter ego of LJHS (there are a few non-LJHS additions in the club starting rotation, but the core starters at LJHS all played LJU 18s this summer).

In this Top 25 ranking, Brunswick School in Greenwich is absent from the list. In the pre-season, @Jeff acknowledged their level and ranked them #15.
I just wanted to recognize what they accomplished this weekend at one of the most competitive 19U tournaments in the world, Next Generation in Barcelona.
Brunswick finished 4th, behind only OSC (Hungary), CNB (Spain), and CNAB (Spain). They earned their place in the semifinal by beating Mladost of Croatia 14 to 12 after a shootout.
To put that result in context for American water polo fans, 6 of the 15 Mladost players on the roster won gold medals this summer with Croatia’s U18 and U16 national teams, with Deni Seppe winning in both age groups . Without much exaggeration, a U.S. high school team played against a Croatian national team level roster and beat it.
I think Brunswick this year, and over the past five years since being excluded from California competition by CIF, has been a top five high school water polo program in the country. It is a shame they do not get any opportunity to compete domestically against the very best teams in the nation.

The shame is that Brunswick has to choose which authority to play under: the interscholastic athletics association that governs private schools in the multiple states that actually offer water polo, or the Connecticut equivalent of CIF, which does not recognize water polo as a state sport. If the State does not sanction water polo, but a different (possibly equivalent) governing body does, it’s my opinion that a school program that participates in a sanctioned activity outside the state “monopoly on authority” should be allowed to compete in California. In 2023, we saw Greenwich HS compete at Steve Pal. And in 2019 we had Brunswick traveling to the America’s Finest City event in San Diego.
Brunswick’s (and possibly Greenwich’s) situation differs in degree and kind from programs like IMG Academy, which plays all the standard sports (and then some) but is not governed by the Florida CIF equivalent.
