USCCs boys schedules are out, first time in recent memory that SD is hosting. Have there always been Friday morning games? I remember only Friday afternoon games on the girls side. Friday 8a start at Granite Hills/Steele Canyon is rough.
Last year the 12U boys played on Friday.
It’s always been Fri-Sun
More prestigious than Futures on girls side until recently, and well-run (aside from Santiago scoreboard going down every year on Sunday and the time-and-a-half maintenance guy needing to be called)
But never Friday morning games I can recall
Keep in mind that boys tourneys are usually bigger than the girls side, so they need a full schedule of Friday games to accommodate. USCCs were held in San Diego for the girls right after COVID year and they did a great job. San Diego area are used to hosting large tournaments and they seem to always do a great job
Ah you’re right, thunderstorms at Santana iirc. Maybe pre covid.
But here are the last Friday game times
12U 330p
14U 415p
16u 415p
How about push them all back 3.5 hours and start at noon instead of 8a? Friday night lights is cool but Friday wake up at 5am and drive to East County not so cool
Brazil has a World Cup game that Friday at 5:30. Gotta leave folks time to watch this game ![]()
Lots of top clubs not participating in Uscc on the boys side, some clubs even sending B teams. I wonder how the girls side is going to look. Why are clubs not attending this prestigious tournament ?
Is USCC an invite only or can any club sign up??
Too many events in Southern California over the course of a year. Hard to justify going to JOs, Futures, Kap 7, Club Champs, High School Champs for clubs outside of So Cal.
Summer vacations after quals perhaps?
I think on the boys side, Futures has become so big an important, that USCCs and Cal Cup are relegated lower in priorities, often for their B teams.
On the girls side USCCs is still a ‘prestigious’ tournament, as Futures is still building up in importance.
It seems like Cal Cup might be in trouble overall
