Top 20 NorCal Girls High School Teams - Anyone Want to Take a Stab?

AG 9 Miramonte 8

It is definitely nice when teams use 6-8 for scoring…gives the game a lot of perspective even without a stream.

Campolindo 11 Arroyo Grande 10 in 2OT

Soquel 13 Acalanes 12 in another parity alert

Arroyo Grande tournament should be a Barn Burner!

Top 9 seeds for Arroyo Grande

  1. SHP
  2. Campolindo
  3. Arroyo Grande
  4. Miramonte
  5. Carondelet
  6. Leland
  7. Soquel
  8. Clovis East
  9. San Ramon Valley

Where would you put Acalanes to complete a current NorCal Top 10?

AGHS Tournament Schedule

From the first day of AGHS tournament:

SHP over Campolindo 10:9 (OT)
Carondelet over AG 6:5
Miramonte over Leland 12:11
Soquel over Clovis East 15:14 (OT)
These four games have been exhibitions.

So far, one upset (potentially). The tournament’s website says that Buchanan lost to Stevenson 7:8 in overtime, but Maxpreps says that Buchanan was the winner. Sctrojanje, who won?

Update: now Maxpreps shows that Stevenson beat Buchanan 8:7 in overtime (I assume that Stevenson people have corrected the score) but it still shows Buchanan girls with 8 goals. So Maxpreps is not very reliable - what else is new

Miramonte beat Carondelet 8:7.

P.S. GB beat Leland, also 8:7. I expected Leland’s best players (say # 8) to win it for Leland. A good win for GB! On the other side, Leland is a younger team. They will be even stronger next year.

@wpolo93 Granite Bay is playing 3 freshmen on it’s Varsity. Tessa Gardin is a starter and Lucy Arbuckle is a strong contributor off the bench.

I know this and I know both girls. But I venture to say that GB will not improve as much as say Davis and Leland next year based on the teams compositions (GB have several important seniors, don’t they?)

P.S. I would also add that, currently, Davis has a stronger crop of 6th-8th graders than GB. Anyway, respect where respect is due. The win over Leland is a good one

Great job, Arroyo Grande! They are a new #2 in Norcal (at least).

AG Tournament Final standings

  1. Arroyo Grande
  2. Miramonte
  3. Sacred Heart Prep
  4. Campolindo
  5. Carondelet (who did beat AG by 1 in Thurs night game)
  6. Granite Bay
  7. Soquel
  8. Clovis East

Great weekend for Granite Bay! Obviously the top 5 teams are all very strong and to answer a previous question about Acalanes…they are probably a solid 6th at the moment even with that win over Carondelet the loss against Soquel keeps them there.

The top six teams in Norcal are SHP, then AG, Campo, Miramonte, and Carondelet (in some order), then Acalanes. Then there is a good gap, and currently GB comes 7th (right?).

The results between the top six team games (more recent games come first):

vs AG 10:7 (OT) and 12:7
vs Miramonte 5:8, 8:11, and 13:7
vs Campo 12:8 and 10:9
vs Carondelet 12:8
vs Acalanes 13:3

AG (3 wins and 4 losses, two of which are in OT)

vs SHP 7:10 (OT) and 7:12
vs Miramonte 9:6 and 9:8

Campolindo (3 wins and 4 losses)

vs SHP 8:12 and 9:10
vs AG 8:12 and 11:10 (OT)
vs Miramonte 7:5 and 9:4
vs Carondelet 3:7

vs AG 6:9 and 8:9
vs Campolindo 5:7 and 4:9
vs Carondelet 8:7

Carondelet (2 wins and 3 losses)

vs SHP 8:12

vs Campolindo 7:3
vs Miramonte 7:8
vs Acalanes 8:9

Acalanes (1 win 1 loss)

vs SHP 3:13
vs Carondelet 9:8
Acalanes also has an OT loss to Soquel 12:13

Davis beat Granite Bay 7:4. A good game.

Yes it was. An enthusiastic crowd was on hand to see Davis do a great job of executing their game plan.

Hope there will be a rubber match between them!

This was the last game between Davis and GB at the Arroyo pool. Davis is supposed to get a new (Olympic size?) pool on the hs campus by next Fall.
Should be a big upgrade.

Norcal Invitational at SHP and Palo Alto HS (October 25-26, 2024):

Sacred Heart wins 8-7 over Arroyo Grande in the final

NCS looks like it’s going to be a dogfight on the girls side with Campo Carondelet Miramonte Acalanes

As CIF plays out it’s going to be interesting to see where all the dominos fall for NorCal Regionals D1 and D2, lot of very close teams in the 7-16 slots.

The top five teams in NorCal are very close and anybody can beat anybody on a good day but, at the same time, SHP is the undisputable #1. I think the refereeing was a bit harsh to them in the finals. I know that some complained that SHP got home refereeing at the boys North South Invite. Definitely not the case here.

SHP’s #11 was clearly the best player of the tournament. She looks college ready. AG’s goalie had a very good game against Campo in the semis. Campo’s #17 is a very talented sophomore who basically carried her team in the 3rd place game against Carondelet.

HS girls playoff update:

NCS — Saturday Open Division Campo vs Acalanes, Miramonte vs Carondelet

CCS — Quarters start Saturday Menlo vs Stevenson,
SI vs Soquel, Leland vs Paly, SHP vs SF

Central — Semis on Tuesday AG vs Buchanan, Clovis vs Clovis East

SJS — Semis on Tuesday Granite Bay vs McClatchy, Davis vs St. Mary’s

Here are my predictions for the championship games:

CCS
SHP over Soquel

NCS
Miramonte over Campo

Central Section
Arroyo Grande over Clovis

Sac-Joaquin Section
Granite Bay over Davis

I’m wrong already:
Carondelet 5, Miramonte 4

Other scores:
Campo 8, Acalanes 3
