Thread specific to the 12U Boys weekend.
I read this on the Super Finals 14u threat, “at least we aren’t as bad as 12U boys thread.” I didn’t know the 12u parents are bad.
Overall games this friday we have good games to watch for D1, Mission v SJX, Dons vs N. Irvine, Vanguard vs CCU, for Div 2 San clemente vs SB. any other games?
Yeah I almost piped up with “shots fired!” Sorry, it gets lonely here in my mom’s basement and I really like to talk about waterpolo. AI summarized it for me though, we need to have more arguments about the definition of “development” and 12U boys have a few years till they are in high school (I guess the only waterpolo that counts is CIF) ![]()
I am excited for the weekend. Should be some really good games with all the norcal squads mixed in. Hopefully the teams aren’t feeling any effects from travel and/or time zone change coming back from trips![]()

They aren’t. The 12u boys parents are arguably the most engaged and passionate on this board, and that is not a bad thing. I fully believe in the benefit to kids of parents taking some measure of ownership their kid’s victories and defeats. I absolutely celebrate the wins and have crushing empathy in the low points.
The science on how good competitive athletics is for kids, all kids, boys AND girls, recreational and highest tier club, is beyond question. Getting the most out of it is a combination of nature and nurture. Nurture. NURTURE…aka coaching, club environment, and PARENTING. Dads who see themselves in their kids wins and losses aren’t wrong. There is a ton of research to back that up.
It is always possible to take things too far. I have personally seen parental involvement blow up teams and clubs, but I’ve not seen anything like that in the 12u boys thread and I don’t think the broad brushes being used are appropriate.
Any body knows the score so far they are not updating the scores so far and 6-8 only works for 908 teams and the 16u and 18u
The Google Docs schedule is not updating, but the OneDrive schedule is.

Dons vs NI was an awesome game to watch, Dons came back from behind to win on shootouts
There’s also a lot of families who are completely driven by fomo.
I think for tomorrow the last 4 games will be
Stanford v tsunami
Dons v SJX
Mission v N. Irvine
Vanguard v San Clemente
North Irvine is one tough opponent with their new player. That game should be almost as interesting as the Dons game.
Dons vs Vanguard
Mission vs Stanford
Dons might be looking for some redemption after the last day of league play where Vanguard beat them to play in the final against Mission.
Stanford would like nothing more than to take Mission to Sunday school early in the morning after losing to them at SD Cup.
Mission has not been dominant in any of their games this weekend. There are two players on IR sitting on the bench.
IF Mission makes the final…
Vanguard would surely like another shot at Mission, they are 0 for 4 against them (last loss was JO Quals)
Dons would surely like another shot at Mission, they are 0 for 2 against them (last loss was Sailor’s Cup)
Tomorrow is set to be a clash of 12U mini-titans!
11-10 - Great win for Stanford. I wish Greenwich was here.
There was a lot of really good water polo this weekend. I think the top four teams conversation turned into the top 7 conversation. North Irvine did well but came up on the wrong end of three very tight games. Stanford also show they are very much in the conversation. San Jose Express also had a great win over North Irvine.
In the next tier Rose Bowl was quite a surprise for me. They definitely could ruffle some feathers at JOs.
Congrats Dons. Putting it together when they need to. Cyrus remains the best 12u coach in America.
Stanford definitely played a good game and put up a good fight.
This future finals brought some excitement games overall. Some pretty good players to watch I was hoping to see #2 from mission back, but #7 is another great talent, #6 from North Irvine such of strong player, #7 from Dons also strong kid, also #8 from Vanguard another strong player. The goalie from San Clemente impress me also. I really saw good talented kids this future final brought. I am looking forward to to Quicksilver and Junior Olympics. It is going to be battle.
Definitely the team that should be on everyone’s radar moving forward is North Irvine.
They’re not messing around. They’re gritty, scrappy, and at times absolutely dominant.
Don’t Sleep on them. They can run with anyone!
Yes North Irvine and Stanford are in my opinion mixed up in the top 6 (Greenwich, Dons, Stanford, Mission, Vanguard, North Irvine, in that order)
I’m not sure that’s the right order, but I’ll just leave that alone for now!
