ODP 2026 Regional Championships

GOLS is streaming. It will cost $30 to watch your kid scrimmage. Someone else will have to report back about the quality when it occurs. I won’t get fooled again.

And not streaming at OCC. In the past, I’ve definitely paid and found out the game I want is not streaming :woman_facepalming:t2:

What region is on the 26?

I am not aware of anything on Jan 26th. I mentioned Mid Jan 26 (2026)…

Only remaining camp I know of for youth girls is tomorrow 1/10/26.

Hoping to hear something (yes/no) after this?

It seems that there are many missing players from this weekend. Good luck to all those that are in attendance. As with all ODP, this is a chance to play more and get better. That should be everyone’s goal.

Have the odp evaluations from this past weekend came out

It’s the day after. I’m sure some teams have already been decided but give it a few days. Hopefully by the weekend all the kids will find out.

My understanding is the deadline for releasing the zone team rosters is February 1. It could be sooner, but should be no later.

I was at the Development Event in Costa Mesa and am still sorting through my thoughts but there are some who are not Academy-identified making initial impressions with me.

At the center position I was really impressed with Aki Strong from OCWPC. He proved to have the length, strength, and composure to be deadly at 2 meters. Also impressive was Caden Lai from CCU. I know he played 12u last season but don’t know if he’s a 2012 or 2013 birthday. Either way, that kid is hard to stop.

In goal, I was most impressed with Sean Lee from SD Dons. He was on all weekend and made a number of saves that were almost inhuman.

There were a couple of kids who caused a controversy on WPEX last year when they failed to be selected to a zone team. Both looked outstanding this year. Spencer Robinson was fast and made great decisions with his shot selection. Cash Tolentino had great field awareness, knew when to leak out, was quick and had a lethal floater.

Is it a completely different timeline for girls? No news on PAC zone yet after camps. Did they just not tell the girls who didn’t make it?

Love this Marco, I wish there were more like you with public thoughts and insights and reasoning on ODP events and selections.

The PAC Zone girls concluded over a month ago, and if travel will be involved, it would be helpful to have clarity sooner than later.

I’m not sure if this directly impacts the PAC zone, but the selections for all 3 socal zones for the girls have typically been held up until late-February/early-March because they wait until after the high school season concludes to do the final eval camp.

There are no rosters released for the eval camp being held in SoCal end of Feb

What are your guys predictions of about the zones winning at the youth level

These are scrimmages. Who wins is irrelevant.

Do the ODP coaches use the 68 stats?

Youth had really strong competition in the scrimmages both days (Oxnard/Ojai) high level coaching and while zone teams came together quickly, they gelled fast. Was very impressed by this event, hope they keep the format going.

Thank you to USA Polo!

Generally speaking, no.

68 stats provide an objective measure for fundamental performance. Though high values in these measures likely correlate with high performing athletes, there is no substitute for game situations. Likely it would be beneficial to aggregate data on the selected athletes year over year to compare preparation, just as any individual athlete can use this objective measure to better identify and train their weaknesses.

I can think of one athlete in particular (12U last year, 14U this year) that may not have the highest 68 stats but his motor in the tank during game situations is unparalleled and his awareness/game IQ is phenomenal. Not sure how he did this last weekend though.

Edit: i mistakenly thought this question pertained to the 68 challenge stats. It partially still applies for game desk stats. Sorry for confusion.
