List of Tournaments

the Exchange needs to have some type of category, tag, landing page, etc. Listing HS Tournaments (JV and Varsity) and Club Tournaments. Throughout the year, you hear of a tournament, but it may be difficult to find on USA Water Polo Website, or during the HS Season, AD’s (who are not the most knowledgeable) and Coach’s have to dig through each CIF Section classified page looking for tournaments and games.

The reason why I bring this up, I was not aware of the Beast of the East Tournament. If schools out West knew about it, I am sure they would have sent a JV Team to compete for the experience and ability to get some quality Pool Time.

Oh no, someone broke into my lab, hacked my account and is now leaking some screenshots :double_exclamation_mark:

Directory for different categories of competitions (NCAA, HS - CA, HS East Coast, etc)

And sketch for a detail page (divisions can be age-group, skill level like Plat/Gold, etc)

This is currently powering fantasy water polo with me functioning as solo-admin for data organization but is not yet ready for primetime.

Targeting the next couple weeks to make it “read-only” so y’all can get a one-stop shop for NCAA results.

Next I’ll be working on making it self-service/multiplayer so we can begin to make community pages.

If y’all have a tournament coming up in the next few months (say November), please reach out if you’d like to be one of the early adopters here.

That looks awesome.

Thank you for being forward thinking. I see this as a great way to break out of the same 6 team HS tournaments and help grow regional club tournaments

@Sctrojanje, two signals in the last month is enough for me to re-prioritize this.
I’m aiming to have something usable in the next week or so.

Starting small here but I think this is enough to get us started.

Here’s upcoming tournaments:

and here’s one where I’ll start compiling a directory of scores:

I’ll make a link in the main page but please provide feedback as you look around.

@Sctrojanje thanks again for the nudge here.
It’s probably good from a development standpoint that you asked for this before I was able to standup on overbuilt pillar of engineering to support this.

A couple next steps:

  1. For now, you’ll need to just reach out to me to get a tournament listed. I’m thinking a contribution to the message board of 10% of a single entry fee is a good starting point to help offset costs of this whole operation. I’ll also update the thread here when I add tournaments so folks following along can see this. Someone please DM if this is completely unreasonable from a cost or operations perspective.
  2. As we add more competitions and the list gets cumbersome to navigate, I’ll start adding in the divisions and team filters you saw in my “hacked” screenshots
  3. Adding navigation from the main message board to the tournament pages and back.

Hi @clark

Thank you for the build out. I like what you have created so far and thank you for acting on a suggestion.

I do not know if this is idea or not, but in the name of the tournament, could you do something to differentiate the organizations sanctioning the event , such as a simple USAWP shield, AWPA logo, CIF, UIL, etc…for people to see what it may be affiliated with? On the West Coast, with AWPA making a slow encroachment this would help in identifying the level of talent participating.

CIF-SS, CIF-CS, CIF-SJS, UIL, the HS Season would be able to locate tournaments in there geographic region.

For those who do not understand the reasoning behind this, if you are searching for a tournament on USAWP, it is (the best word I can think of) is clunky. The search bar does not work well, and the switch to the new platform in my opinion alone was a step back in functionality.

On the HS side, to search for a tournament, you have to go to that CIF Section website, and search based upon criteria (Sport, Gender, Varsity/JV). For some Sections, it is listed under Classified, others it is a hunt and click type of searching. There is no one stop website (which you would think with all the Spectrum money, they would do one at the State Level).

For the AWPA, you have to know what area is hosting, or browse through each region pull down tab to see what is listed.

These are my quick suggestions for now. Thank you again for the build out.

Yes, these are great.
I’m thinking I’ll add something like “sanctioning body” and they’ll get a logo of some sort.

Will keep this going

Implementation on suggestions coming soon, but added the dataset that I’m using to back our fantasy game.
