You could say that for just about any coach in any sport…
It doesn’t really say anything about Flacks. You can look at alot of programs and see their alumni sliding into the 2nd assistant slot after they are done playing. If you want to coach there aren’t that many opportunities at the college level. Works out perfect for Ben because he’s attending grad school and can earn some money at the same time while also likely hopping in the pool and continuing his training for 2028.
Totally fair perspectives — and I appreciate the different viewpoints.
At the end of the day, I’m just genuinely excited about the people involved and the energy around the program. Any staff that includes Brian Flacks, Ben Hallock, Matt Farmer, and Soren Jensen is something to be optimistic about — especially for the future of the Stanford Cardinal.
Looking forward to seeing what this group builds together.
Fully agreed, great staff. And with Flacks heading into his fifth season with a roster built entirely from his recruits, it really does feel like a big moment for the program. Big test, big year, big opportunity.
Guillermo Ocasio has now swapped coasts, exchanging PP’s blue and orange Sagehen gear for Harvard’s Crimson as he joins the Harvard Water Polo coaching staff for men’s and women’s programs.
Great pickup, super surprised he left PP
Guillermo is the best. Any program is lucky to have him.
Jordan Raney is another great addition to the Harvard program
I have heard rumblings that Jeff Tyrell is coming back to Cal. Anybody know anything of this? Would be great for Cal to have him back. Elite coach.
Yes, he’s back at Cal.
Check WPW interview with the man himself ![]()
Glad to see Tyrell back at Cal. The MPSF is going to be really competitive next year. I can’t imagine Cal missing the NCAAs for the third straight year, but I am not sure who they are going to leapfrog to make it.
Did Cal lose an assistant coach to open up a spot or will Tyrell be an incremental addition to the program. Good to see him back either way.
I believe that Tuiasau is coaching elsewhere. Maybe he took his spot?
It’s going to be very competitive next season. Someone will be heartbroken. I need to see how the transfer portal settles as I’ve heard a few doozies rumored to be interested in moving. I need to see who Cal, USC and UCLA bring in for next season. Stanfords roster seems pretty well known.
Tuiasau is the new head coach of the Queensland Thunder.
