This class is filled with high level athletes. It will be interesting to follow this year’s timeline as opposed to class of 26 which was slow to start. I assume we will see commitments coming much sooner.
I have no data to back this up, but 2026 felt similar to 2025, 2024, etc. It may move slightly earlier each year. However, transfer portal changes things a bit as teams may take longer to know what they have/need. 2026 is known to be a stacked class and I know 2027, like every year, has some high level athletes. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Best of luck to all the athletes.
Ellis Culleton - Campolindo High School and CCU - Cal
Great shooter and attacker. Apart of the cadet and youth national team for a few years. (Via instagram bio)
Interesting to see Cal committing so early when they only have one player committed in the ‘26 class, according to known commitments.
It is possible Cal was the ‘too slow’ in ‘26 and lost top prospects to other schools and they are now trying to be ahead of the curve.
It seems that every year schools that were behind the curve the previous year trying to be ahead of the curve the following year.
Culleton is a great player, extremely fast and explosive, good pick up for Cal.
when do we think more class of 2027 players will be committing, during the winter/spring or starting of their senior year?
It is always nerve racking to see the first announcements coming so early. September of junior year is one of the earliest I can remember, and it is uncommon in water polo. You can look back at the ‘25 and ‘26 threads, and the pace will likely be about the same. A handful will commit during junior year (about 5 percent), the largest wave comes in the summer of junior year (about 45 percent) close to and after JOs, and the rest (about 50 percent) commit in late summer and into senior year.
The big four usually commit early with some of their top recruits. The Ivy League comes later, as they need to review grades and test scores. Schools lower down the chain tend to be the last to fill, for the simple reason that players commit to them last. Every year, one or two schools that were late and lost top recruits will adjust and move earlier in the next cycle.
My suggestion is not to get stressed. It is a long process, and most players commit after July of junior year.
Levon Kevorkian ‘27 La Jolla HS and La Jolla United –> Pepperdine (thanks @wp2024 for the heads up).
Pepperdine picks up another: Cutter Leach ‘27 (Bishops/Shores).
Nice pick-up by the Waves. Leach is a relentless attacker with length and speed. Vertical game is evolving. Best days are definitely ahead for this up-and-coming prospect.
Alex Woolfe , Australian Goalie (u16 NT) => Princeton
I’m not sure how someone can commit , more precisely how can a coach guarantee a spot, to an ‘27 ivy class so early.
At this point I would not call anything a guarantee. Likely they verbally offered assume certain things fall in place, and he verbally accepted. Princeton would not guarantee anything.
Great pick-up by Princeton. Wolfe was arguably the best junior goalie I saw last summer.
Brendan Bogansky, La Salle HS / WCAC => LMU
Crazy early east coast commit. This is La Salle College High School and WCAC United in Pennsylvania. Carrasco getting aggressive early and I am a huge fan. This is a great pick up for them
Watched Bogansky in Texas playing for NEZ. Very talented attacker with upside. Moves very well and is explosive. Nice pick up by LMU.
Thank you @JFranPolo for sharing your insight. It means a lot coming from you and I am sure an East Coast athlete, who works hard to get noticed, would greatly appreciate the feedback.
Jett Taylor, Cathedral Catholic/Del Mar (Dons) - UCLA
Probably the top recruit in this class.
Taylor has immense upside as a defender.
