Agree. Hopefully there’s regulation for money paid to incoming freshman at some point soon.
It’s wild seeing high school kids w $10m offers. I believe that money used to go to support all the other non rev (olympic) sports? Hopefully I’m wrong and it’s new, private funding.
Things are changing. I hope water polo survives. I will say watching women’s flag football—I would fund that over women’s water polo. It’s has a large college fan base and support.
Medical redshirts will still exist - for obvious reasons. But, I think you are right - with limited roster spots now, there will probably be less room for “project” recruits that can’t contribute right away, but who might benefit from a first year redshirt to get bigger, fine tune their skills, etc.
Like this sign from Stanford personally. South Africa has some real individual talent but struggles on the international stage due to coaching and corruption preventing guys from playing
I heard he did not get accepted to the school, not sure where he will end up. Apparently he was headed to LMU before Stanford found him. NOT sure if this is true, rumors from the stands.
Stanford along with all of the Ivy League programs with the exception of Princeton reinstated the SAT (or ACT) requirement for this year. This should lead to a decrease in the number of international players admitted to Stanford and the Ivy League programs (except Princeton).
Nick Grandinetti, Bishop’s and La Jolla United, Pomona-Pitzer
Jake Lee, Loyola and Trojan, Pomona-Pitzer
Jaden Winters, Oaks Christian and Pride, Pomona-Pitzer
Nelson Harris, SHP and Atherton, CMS
Another very good class for Pomona-Pitzer this year. Another outstanding one. It seems as if they are starting to compete with mid/low d1 teams in terms of recruiting. Zach Whitfield (Arroyo Grande) , Miles Chiang (Rose Bowl), Indigo Lee (Harker), Chase Barman (Bellermine), Greg Moore (Orange Lutheran) were all the start of this great recruiting for PP C/O 2027, followed by Connor Sullivan (SJX), Logan Colman (Los Alamitos), Max Distaso (Foothill Club), Alden Pfau (La Jolla), and Darragh Flanders (Santa Monica) for 2028. This team is going to be really good in 1-2 seasons and has the potential to knock off some solid D1 teams soon, as these players are all getting reps in games and improving, while a lot of athletes their skill level in high are all redshirting or not getting playing time at the moment. Super excited to see who CMS and Redlands pick up this time around.
offball is right on the money. Starting with the Pomona-Pitzer and CMS class of 2027 these are D1 quality players that are making a decision that they prefer the DIII experience for water polo and the elite academics of a small private school in a beautiful and sunny Southern California locale.
Same with PP’s 2028 class and now the three in the 2029 class. These are kids that turned down D1 offers in favor of the city of Trees and PhD’s.
With the new roster limits coming into effect, I think you’re going to see a lot more great players finally choosing Top DIII programs. This is really the start of John Abdou’s dream.
To offball’s question Redland’s signed Xander Trevitt - Carlsbad HS - Carlsbad club. Fantastic center and a great kid.
