Because of the Varsity Blues scandal programs have to hold onto their players until end of Spring to make their cuts to 24. I believe you will see Cal and others make large cuts to get down to the 24 man roster and then those players could go in the May portal or stay to graduate as a non-athlete.
I’m really curiouse what the mid-majors decide to do in terms of opting into the settlement or not. Like I’ve said in the past I don’t see a good reason for these schools to opt in given their lack of football or non-competitive football.
The shools with wealthy donors like Stanford will become fully endowed programs similar to Brown.
Lets not get carried away with NCAA hockey. I just checked rosters of six schools that are perennial top 10 hockey programs. Boston College, Boston U, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Maine and Minnesota. This is how many internationals are on the rosters. 3 of 27, 6 of 26, 5 of 26, 7 of 30, 11 of 28 and 4 of 26.
One very nice thing to see, is that Minnesota does have 4 internationals and the other 22 are ALL kids from Minnesota
Two of the top Cutino candidates are 25 years old. One an American and the other an Aussie.
There should be a limit on how long athletes can string out their careers.
It’s not about rosters it’s about players. He has Americans on the roster to pay the bills and fundraise. The euros are not coming with money and alumni support/ legacy Sure there are Americans on the roster but they are receiving little or no playing time / development. As noted above Pinta is going to replace 2 Americans with euros. Let’s get even with European rules. Roster foreign players but only 3 get to play at a time. Every euro pro team plays by these rules. There must be immense pressure to win to sell out your own country for wins. I guess Pinta is really a euro though.
75% was an overstatement, agreed
But you do get a very different picture looking at the hockey recruiting class announcements, much closer to 50%. The international players are almost all recruited while walk-ons are almost all US.
Re USC and UCLA rosters being 85% US -
a) bet you than number is down significantly in 5 years
b) let’s talk about Fordham, Princeton, Cal all 25-50% and all with top scorers disproportionately non-US
Cutino watch list is similarly highly over represented by non US
Which gets to the main point here - with rosters getting squeezed and Fordham and Princeton succeeding via non-US, coaches would be foolish not to lean heavily that direction.
Gophers, OK yeah sure.
That is a great get for Santa Clara. Jaime De Zwart was on of the Top 5 players at the ODP Dallas Regionals…Left side attacker with upside
Saul Biddle had a very good senior year and has been quite good this winter as has Kai Johnson. Johnson is a great glue-guy who plays hard and physical.
JFran — what is the source of top-5 at Dallas ODP?
Is it different than this ? 6-8scores page
One quick moderator note. We are trying to keep this thread to commitment announcements and evaluation of each school’s recruiting class. If we could stick to that and talk offline about criticisms it would be appreciated.
I did not use 6-8 Scores. This was based on my own observations watching him play (skill/movements/savvy/upside/body type/production)…This is the process I’ve used for years. Thanks for asking…Joel
Where are the Long Beach State recruits? A few other classes seem sparse
Good timing → Chase Krupitzer , St Francis → LBSU via IG
oooh, what else can I make happen? Such power with no responsibility!
really good player. moves incredibly well in the pool.
When does the transfer portal close?
It looks like the spring window is 5/1-5/15 for men. And 5/5-6/3 for women
Most of these are 2024, but I thought this was interesting. The JO All-American 12U from 2018. Impressive outcomes.

“Scientifically” (though not suggesting to do so), this group would need to be compared to the outcomes of the starters and bench players on the same teams who were not All-Americans. Intuitively, looking at teams like Vanguard, Newport, and SD Shores, their outcomes would likely be just as impressive—just a guess.
I can tell you on the SD Shores team 5 other players are or will be playing in college. Jaxon Leach (Pepperdine) was the starting goalie, Cole Harmon (UCSD) was a starter. Nick Grandinetti (Pomona-Pitzer), Charlie Martin (Fordham) & Andrew Bockstahler (UCI) all current HS seniors were bench players. Justin Stone and Drake Bonaguidi never went on to play college water polo.
