CBU Cuts Men’s Swimming and Diving

Not water polo but certainly will cast a shadow:

Why are schools like cbu and cui cutting their swim programs but not their water polo? Hoping for some clarification

CUI cut it and said that it was financial reasons, but the women’s swim team sued for Title XI violations and won, so they’re back.

I’m not sure. To be honest, if schools actually believed in what they claim to find important (Grades, Community then Athletics), frankly most swim teams should remain over water polo :man_shrugging:t3:. The average gpa on swim teams is higher, in my experience more show up to school events and community events, and for most schools the swim team is equally if not more successful than polo (conference wins, sending athletes to NCAAs).

But the reality is that universities don’t actually believe in that stuff and that most really only care about money. So my guess. Money.

Swim may be more expensive to run if there are more athletes and coaches. I do not know that as fact, but it’s a possibility. I think a lot of this is coming down to financial and the house settlement dynamics. There are a lot of factors behind the scenes for each program that we would not have knowledge of, especially with the ever changing college sports landscape.

This should be merged with the other thread.
