Would it be possible for a refresh on the top 24 predictions? Sounds like a lot of movement based on today’s results.
In the Greenwich vs North Irvine game the refs stop the game for 40 minutes with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter and N.I winning by 1 because one of N.I players had three injections already but they did not notice so, they discussed this for 40 minutes and decided to bring back the score to that point and they played the 4 minutes and Greenwich won. I never saw something like that.
You are right 100%. Season was pretty bad. Kids were there to play for Carrera but they got Adam who didn’t developed them and practice when they had was bad.
Why was Stanford so low, it seems strange now seeing that they beat Newport 17-9.
That is a desk error and is exactly what should happen. However it shouldn’t take 40 minutes to decipher the book and get the game going again.
It appears the “rankings” were heavily influenced by supposed missing players who are playing for the cadet team at worlds. Stanford is a crafty older 18u team, and while it hurts to miss one 16u player who is at worlds, they have a super deep team of 18u players which won Super Finals. If you’ve watched 18u polo this year you know Stanford is a legit top 5 team.
Same goes for San Diego Shores which is another senior heavy team which finished top 6 in both SuperFinals and Quicksilver. The three top players that were supposedly missing for worlds are all 16u players who haven’t played a single game on the 18u team this entire season.
LJU is another team that has finished in the top of all tournaments this year and recently got back one of their best players from injury. They have a tough road the last two days of JOs, but took CCU to the buzzer.
if you watched 18u this year you know all three of these team have medal potential, and shouldn’t be “ranked” out of the top 10.
Thanks for updated chart. Not sure I would want to be Pride having to play Newport this morning after their loss to Stanford. Lol
Next year, you can put out your thoughts before the games instead of after. March Madness brackets made in April aren’t impressive.
Let’s not write Newport off after one loss. This group has had an incredible three-year run, and every great team has an off day. Credit to Stanford—they played a great game, countered extremely well, capitalized on Newport’s missed opportunities and mistakes, and earned the win.
Newport has a very tough road on Saturday, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see them battle their way back into the semifinals. Playing at this level with only 2–3 substitutions in 90+ degree weather is a huge challenge, and depth becomes a major factor over the course of the tournament.
It should be a fun day.Saturday is moving day, with every game carrying huge implications, and the Stanford–CC United matchup should be a great one to watch.
Why only 2 or 3 subs? Clearly they must not have a full roster?
Some scores from Saturday’s action:
SD Dons 20, AETOS 8
NorCal 14, Greenwich 13
La Jolla 11, Atherton 9
Newport 17, Pride 7
Stanford 14, CCU 13
Lamorinda 12, SD Shores 7
Newport 13, La Jolla 6
SD Dons 18, NorCal 13
SD Dons 9.6, CCU 9.5
Newport 13, SD Shores 8
I’ve been interested in how they’d do. That’s a tough pill to swallow, thought it was just parents venting frustrations but too many of them said the same things. Really thought I would see a Beast boys reloaded. But if you’re only practicing 3/4 of your practice and canceling practices, makes sense why Ni players lose stamina in the 3rd period, a good 4th period is a result of these players sheer will and character.
Stopped by Westminster for a couple minutes, the B/Red team doesn’t even have subs today, they’re playing defeated, this is an embarrassment to these kids. They have a rough couple games ahead of them.
I don’t know if this B team was a proof of concept to see how HS multisport athlete’s would faire or just plain disorganized chaos with the club as a whole. Parents here are saying they got added to the team 1-2 weeks ago and have not been training or in the water since swim season. Overheard the coach apologizing and saying he was asked to come on as a favor a couple weeks ago.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this team just forfeited the rest of the tournament. This can’t be good for anyone’s confidence. Half their team already quit the tournament, their Vegas players never showed up and for some reason the whole lot of 68 Academy athletes that were playing there all just quit before JO’s? And they sold USA Water Polo on what?
Heading over to Jserra to catch Newport vs Pride.
As you said is just parents talking. But I feel bad for the kids, they deserve better. I think with the A team they missed a good opportunity because there are good players there. They were winning by 5 vs Dons and lost by 1 the first day. They show that they can compete.
Wow SD Dons and Norcal Black have games today at 8 am, 2 pm and 6 pm to make it to Semis. That is the the kind of day a player on those teams will never forget. CSeeU at 7…
Limited 18s with Several of their top players with Navy, looks
Like they’ve been splitting 16U and 18U teams to make deep runs in both divisions. It also looks like they’re starting to bring a few additional 16U players up to strengthen the 18U bench as the tournament progresses.
Interesting to see that both semi finals games are rematches of games on day 2

north irvine definitely had a good team, its a shame what happened in the greenwich game. North Irvines goalie pedro mattiazo needs to be on everyones radar though, very good and very underrated.
